The reason that the "petition" idea was dropped is because the majority don't strongly feel that it's that much of an issue. Sorry that we're actually happy that there's a stadium site announced. If you're angry with politicians, let them know. But if you just want to sit around and say "Real Sandy is dumb! Worst thing that could have ever happened! Waaaaahh!", then stay home. Seriously.

Man, you said it. I never thought I'd hear soccer fans in Utah having kittens about the SOCCER SPECIFIC stadium being built in the wrong part of town. this is a historic day but you wouldn't know it by the number of people pissing themselves over it.

In the end the naysayers don't realize that the Sandy site is better for the organization. Uncle Dave saves money - that's good in the soccer business. And it's better for the team. The Sandy site is bigger so they get a practice pitch (a good practice field is key for a pro team) and the complex will have better training/rehab facilities because there's more room.

It might not be ideal for a few specific fans but i think the situation is better for the team so I say rock on uncle Dave!

A few specific fans? I believe the poll in this forum showed that the majority wanted it downtown.

I can be pissed and I am. Do I hate the team? No. Will I stop supporting them? Never! It is nice to know we have a stadium, but the location still sucks.

Granted, it is amazing that we received a stadium in one season. I am just ticked that it was done with dirty money. Dolan took Salt Lake funds to build a parking lot and now he is using that same money to build a stadium in Sandy. I wouldn't be so mad if my money were used in my city for something that I knew about.

The stadium will be a nice facility no matter where it is built. The training facility will be nice too. It doesn't change the fact that the location sucks.

I can see it now. The Announcement. "And the stadium site will be.......Sandy!" "BOOOOOOO!", comes from a couple voices in the crowd.

A kid turns to his dad. "Dad, why are they booing?"
"Well son, they're booing because they are upset that Salt Lake got a MLS team. Upset that Real Salt Lake had an owner, mgmt, and front office who actually cared about the team, its fans and building a SSS when other teams had to wait years for one. But mainly because they had the gall not to built the stadium exactly where they wanted it. That is why they are booing. They say that they're really upset with the politicians, but......."
"It doesn't look that way though, does it dad?"

Come on. I PREFERRED downtown. that's it. preferred. I don't frickin care where they build the stadium, because I know wherever it is, I'll go. (well, except maybe for Provo). Jeez, we have a MLS team, owner, and management who cares. End of story!

The preceeding rant was not meant to offend anyone. If it did....well I really don't care 😉

OK I suppose it is time to split hairs...

The money Tom Dolan got was to build a parking "Garage" part of that money is being used to buy land for the RSL SSS.
The rest of that money is being used to buy land and build a parking lot that will have the same capacity as the parking garage. So you are getting your parking just in a more 2 dimensional way than before.

So maybe, just maybe, since the same amount of money is being used for two projects instead of 1 you should be thanking Mr. Dolan for not causing your taxes to go up to have a stadium and a parking garage.... ok well maybe thanking him might be a bit much.

I think a little perspetive adjustment may be in order... if not oh well... I tried.

I don't want to single you out but I think that kind of "SLC's money only belongs in SLC" argument is, well, crap. The whole point of these funds is that everyone chips in and everyone benefits in the long run. Now we can argue who is benefiting more than others and such. But to imply that tax money raised within SLC's borders should only be used in SLC isn't right. I'm not saying that the specifics in this case are the best, either. But that's how things happen when the game's set up the way it is. SLC gets state money to spruce up the SP to pull in more conventions that fill more hotel rooms that add more to the city coffers with sales taxes and room taxes + jobs within the city. And sometimes those same funds go to a big project that the city doesn't benefit directly from. It's part of the game. But with SLC having the Delta Center, Salt Palace, the airport, the key downtown in the area ($$$$ property taxes), the UofU, the state capital, and other such comminity / couunty / state institutions, I don't think it's unfair that a place like Sandy gets one of them every now and then.

If I find Penelope Cruz in my bed tonight, I'm kicking her out unless she cooks and washes windows.

Man you read that right on. I am upset that we got a team and I am upset that we have management that cares. Way to blow it way out of proportion. I was one of the first people to sign up for season tickets. When did I say that I was upset about any of those things. I was just saying I am upset about the location. I am excited we are getting a stadium, but upset about the location.

I appreciate the conversation this has generated. It is great. I actually got a call and am going with some of the office guys out to the press conference at 3 p.m. But because I don't care about the team or management then they probably shouldn't have invited me.
