USA v Costa Rica June 4th

OK, Utah soccer people, we're next. The USMNT's next WCQ will be ours, and we HAVE to do better than the folks down in Birmingham.

Most reports say half of the 31,000 in Legion Field were cheering for Guatemala. Good for the Guatemalan fans who made the effort, but not nearly good enough for the US fans. Embarrassing, actually.

We have the advantage of the RSL game to get fans in the stadium, but trust me when I tell you the Costa Ricans will be just as willing to travel long distances to support their team as the Guatemalans were.

Push this game. Tell your friends, buy up tickets, do whatever you have to do. But get this thing sold out with as much red, white, and blue as possible.

As added incentive, if we want to be a regular stop on the USMNT circuit, we have to step up and make sure the team gets the homefield advantage it deserves. Don't expect them to play in Birmingham again anytime soon.

The gauntlet's thrown down. Time to show the country what we're made of.

We need the help of the FO. We need them to do a massive PR & advertising blitz. Our own efforts might generate another 100 people, but we need tens of thousands of people in addition to those that will attend the RSL matches.

Anything less than a standing-room-only situation will not be satisfactory.

We got 22-23,000 to the USWNT match last year. Can we get twice as many for the Men?

With the number of people that have asked me about tix for June 4th I'm not worried. These are people who aren't really even sports fans, but they'll put money down to see the USMNT. And most of these people I haven't told, they found out through the media some how. They just ask me about info because I'm the nerd who weares soccer shirts all the time. like many of you 😉

You would hope especially considering that was a meaningless exhibition and this is a WCQ.

I'm already planning to buy tickets for other people as soon as they're available. Everybody who is a season ticket holder, mention casually to people, "Hey I can get tickets before they're availabe to the public, so if you want a really good seat, let me know and I'll buy tickets for you." That might be the added incentive people need to buy any tickets at all. Who knows?

You would hope, but we’re talking about the general public who knows what the Superbowl is, but might not understand the difference between the a friendly and a WCQ…

Another difference is that every Tico from Miami to LA and every place in between will be here for this game.

It's our job to make sure that there are no tickets left, like we did back in Portland in '97.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. An early sellout means walkup is not a factor. No walkup means the stadium is OURS.

That's the way the game is played--we create a homefield advantage.

The team will take care of the rest.
