This weekend is the kick off of MLS’s 10th season. “Of course most of the USA still will not take notice of the MLS kickoff, fixated instead on the NCAA Final Four weekend, the resumption of the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry and the advent of another baseball season.”

Not that we really care, but I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any significant events happening in SLC on June 4th that could compete for the general public’s attention??

I know of the following events:
Salt Lake Stingers game that night at 7:00 pm.
Billy Dean concert, Sandy City Ampitheater 9400 South 1300 East

The point is, USMNT must be a draw for its own sake regardless of what else is going on. If people want to see Billy Dean over USMNT, that’s their loss…

Oh man, that has to be on the same night? I was really looking forward to seeing Billy Dean. That makes the decision a really tough one. I'm going to have to ponder that for a really, really long time.

Okay done, going to the game. :D

Hey, Billy Dean!

The 1990 US World Cup team called. They want their hair back.

WCQ Organization for RSL - URGENT

In 2 months, a WCQ will be played in SLC. Since February I have either posted and sent PM to Glenn suggesting numerous activities that need to be planned.

I truly doubt that the Loyalists will be able to pull this off - lack of organization, lack of experience and lack of expectations. And thus will be looked at as "Tools" in MLS/USNT. My intent is not to insult but to encourage action.

If the Loyalists are expecting that Sam's Army is going to organize this event, then you're truly mistaken. Sam's Army (TM) is a defunct organization with 1 person owning the rights to the name with a reluctance to really build an organization. Therefore, the host supporter's group has been the SA organizing committee. Now this post is not to argue the merits of SA (TM) - it is what it is.

I am coming to game - regardless. But the experience will be much better if certain organizational activities are pursued ahead of time instead of trying to react - PLANING IS KEY. It's too bad that no one from RSL (or the loyalists) was at Bham (or attended the activities) that I'm aware of.

This is a PM that I sent Glenn over a month ago. Since I have not received a response in any venue, I don't know what to assume.

Hi,
June 4th is right around the corner. By now, you should have communicated with the RSL management requesting an end-zone for the Sam's Army section. Trying to fit us in your regular section will probably be too small. At least get a hold on the section (suggestion - N23 through N25). Because RSL is probably going to start selling season tickets and single tickets for these seats now. Also, ensure that the management is aware that by consolidating the Sam's Army section the fans who desire to sit quietly and watch the game will not be bothered. The section will be standing and singing for the entire match. They probably don't want to have this throughout the stadium.

Below is my checklist that I posted on BS.

1. Sam's Army Section.
- Discuss with RSL management a ticket section - behind one goal. Reserve the entire section (or 2). Do this as soon as this is announced.
- Discuss with RSL management banners, flags, drums, drum sticks (thanks tool box), banner parameters, size of banners.
- Discuss with RSL management separate entry way, aides in the march up.
- Discuss with RSL management early entry to setup banners. Either day of game or day before.

2. Happy Hour. For Friday.
- Find a soccer friendly bar. Should allow singing, drinking, rowdiness.
- Must have good beers
- Easy to find, good food
- Soccer Friendly - not going to boot out the soccer fans if the rockies are on.
- Work on this - make plans - announce it.
- Find out about taxi, phone numbers.
- No membership fees (or free temp. membership).

3. Tailgate.
Assuming game time at 530pm (local time) with a 8PM start for MLS.
- Discuss with RSL management opening lots at 12am (settle for 1pm), 2pm if nothing else (but it isn't enough time) for a good tailgate.
- Discuss with RSL managment drinking tailgating is ok. If not, arrange a spot within walking, car-pooling distance.
- Get a reserved parking section for the Sam's sections - if not stake a claim on a particular spot.
- Home fans - you need to bring grills, coolers, tables, etc.
- Visitors - bring perishables, beer, etc.
- notify fans where the liquor stores/hours/etc. Open on Sat? Fri night?
- Beer available ?
- Set the atmosphere, have fun, you'll have a ball meeting the fans from all over the country.
- put aside team for the country (at least until the USMNT match is over).
- March up is pretty impressive when Sam's enters at one time. Sets tone. Best so far - Boston against El Sal Labor day week-end 2004. Set a time. 30 mins before game - suggestion.

4. After game gathering
Many fans are staying Sat night.
Find another pub close to the stadium where fans can enjoy a little celebration.

5. Accomodations.- Find close hotels that would be best.
- Discuss group discounts.
- Try to find central area, close to stadium, happy hour
- Advertise this on BS
- Carpooling/transportation from airport.

6. Local Attractions.
- List some interesting local attractions (out of towners looking for something to fill Sunday afternoon, Friday afternoon.

7. Talk to those who know- Send emails to K (Kim-DCU), Patfan1 (Monty-Rev), I think Fidlerre (CLB) asking for additions to this list. They've been through this - use their expertise.
- Research prior games for what different groups have done.
- Don't let one person try and do this by himself/herself. Organize work together.

Come to Birmingham, see what happens there. However, I'm not sure how it's going to be. The guys are filling in - but they lack the organization of a supporters group (and it's difficult doing things if you're not there).

I'm assuming that your group has a leader - if not, you're in big trouble.

Good luck - I just threw this list together, please feel free to modify as you see fit.

I hope that the Loyalist will view this post as assistance for hosting a successful WCQ. I am worried though. If you look at Chicago, they're already preparing for ticketing. Accomodations are being discussed.

By now, #1 - Sam's Army Section & # 5 Accomodations should be underway.

I don't normally post in this forum. I'm a regular on BS and will be posting this same message there.

I'm thinking that maybe someone in the Loyalists can become the head of a WCQ committee.... what does everyone think?
