Rock is starting to come around. He said that soccer isn't his favorite sport, but that he is okay with it. That is a very large step forward from the Rockmonster.

Graham is mostly schtick.

I was going to talk about how many of us aren't just soccer fans, but oh well. I should know to charge the cordless before I want to use it.

Gotta love open-minded talk show mouthpieces.

They put me on hold for 10 minutes then came back and said they're going to go to their Instapoll and start talking about other subjects and wont be able to get to my call. Can anyone tell me why 1280 is even carrying the games if that's all the coverage they give it?

They made the point that it's about the event and not the game, that's exactly why we paint our faces and throw streamers, but I differ on that, it's about both the event and the game. I'm starting to wonder if most of their listeners just don't care about soccer or something. Oh, wait, they only have 10 listeners.

It could be worse, Rock basically said he is planning on night with us in the corner.

Graham is just schtick. If my phone wouldn't have died, he would have made fun of me for liking the Dolphins and hating his Jets.

Did they even bother to pay attention to the crowd? Honestly, tell me that you get that kind of emotion from a Stingers game. C'mon...

I just sent this letter to Kevin Graham:
Quote:
Hi Kevin,

I tried to call into your show today, but your screener said that you were done taking soccer calls. Is that all the coverage we get?

You mentioned about smaller sports being more about the event than the game. I think that is true in part and that's why we paint our faces and throw streamers, we are caught up in the event, it's a party. Maybe that doesn't make sense to a non-soccer fan. In Brazil I saw people partying all night in the streets when the Brazil national team would win. I know it's not like that here, but I think the Loyalists embody, in part, that spirit of festiveness.

The next point I was going to make was, when they stopped the fireworks it was because Mark Lisi of the Metrostars had collapsed due to exaustion from the altitude and heat. What you might not know is that Jaime Watson came over by where I was sitting and signed autographs for all the fans in the first few rows of our section. Tell me any other sport where the players are approachable like that. I can't even say that about the Stingers, I've tried to get autographs from them and they try to avoid you. Of course there are a few exceptions to this, but most PCL players don't want to sign autographs and most MLS players do.

I'm glad you gave it a chance and I hope you will continue to go to the games, just remember that we're an expansion team and we're still going to have our struggles, just give it some time and it will grow on you. Come sit with the Loyalists next time and you'll see what it's like to be a hardcore soccer fan.

Sincerely,

Roger Douglass

They were talking about the Carnival Real, I guess they didn't notice basically the same thing for Utah games last fall.

Well, I guess we'd better learn from the NFL and other professional leagues and tone it down a bit and act our age. Seriously, guys, c'mon. Is this some sort of mid-life crisis deal forcing you to paint your faces and wear jerseys and such? Grow up!
