Glenn, from what I heard (and I'll have to listen to the replay later) you did fine. But this new guy, Graham, made a seriously BAD impression on me for his first show!! And I was beginning to like him through the whole "pledge week" he went through. He was totally condescending ("little supporters club" - ooooh that pissed me off!), when talking with you. I'm not sure if he was just trying to gain the favor of the other soccer-hater listener's out there at the expense of those of us who love it, or what. I DO like Monson, in fact, he's one of my favorites, so I'm planning on continuing to listen to the show, but that guy Graham gets an angry (but not scathing) email from me tonight!!! This guy needs to understand that, while he's free to not like soccer, he's going to make enemies by belittling the sport and its supporters. I don't mind if he's critical in a fair way - but condescending and pompous about it, NO WAY!!!

🙅 🙅

And don't worry, in my email, I will mention that I'm a Loyalist, but will make sure to indicate that I don't speak for the entire group.

Actually, his exact words were "little fan club".

Time to start an email campaign to 1280. I'm with Fuegote, I listen to Riles on 700. Riles knows the game and likes it. You would think that a host on the station that does the games would be a little more diplomatic about soccer. Screw them, they can lose all of us as listeners and I'm going to write them right now to let them know it.

Here's a copy of my email to program director, Ryan Hatch:

Mr. Hatch,

You do a superb job of caling the RSL games and I am appreciative of the post game show. However, Kevin Graham's comments today about soccer were in poor taste and will not win any new listeners in the RSL community. Just so you know, there are about 200 of us that belong to a newsgroup and we have all decided to quit listening to Graham and Monson. Bill Riley, who does the TV broadcasts, is on 700 AM. Riley is willing to talk about soccer without belittling it. Please inform Mr. Graham that he can bash soccer all he wants, but I wont be listening to him any longer. I think some of your radio personalities are of the attitude that if they ignore soccer it will just go away. RSL is getting crowds that are consistently as large as, or larger than the Utah Jazz. How can he just so casually dismiss soccer as a "fad"? Soccer is here to stay, get used to it. I hope 700 AM picks up the broadcasts from you because they at least appreciate the "beautiful game".

Sincerly,
Roger Douglass
RSL Loyalist

Why? They already broadcast their games. Monson has always been a supporter, Hatch told me tonight that he is becoming a fan, and the they talk about it on the morning show.

Give Gramm a chance he is a funny man and he hasn't yet been exposed to the game other than last night. He may be purposefully antagonizing us because he thinks it makes good radio.

Did any of you listen to him when he was 1320 with Gordon and Ron Boone? He was great.

Yeah, he was always talking about his dog Majerle. That's all I remember about him. Oh yeah, and he went to Detroit to cover hockey games. Well, I put in my 2 cents. I still think 700 does a better job.

Actually, he went to Columbus to be the program director, and then NY, and then Detroit.

Counting Gramm they now have only 2 avowed soccer haters. Hatch was but he is coming around. You haven't listened to the zone enough to get a sense of what they are about. If you like the guys on 700 better fine, but you have the wrong idea about 1280, yes I am a p1

Hopefully Graham will come around. Like I said in another thread, we need to be calling sports radio talk shows every day to get them to talk about RSL. I know there are people out there that would rather die than talk about soccer, but there are sports that I don't like to hear about on the radio, like boxing, horse racing, and auto racing. I know there are people that like these sports, and I respect that. I would hope that soccer haters would give us the same respect and give us our time. I also wish that people knew just how exciting the games are because they wouldn't be disappointed. Last night's game against L.A. was a good example of exciting. Some would say, "Ooo, a 1-1 tie." But you have to admit that there was quite a bit of suspense after L.A. scored. And it was also exciting after we scored when we almost scored again. I didn't grow up on soccer but after watching two games I was hooked. I wish people would give it a chance.

Some of his comments upset me (belittling the Loyalists and Glenn), but others I think were fair, if not a little demeaning. I'm going to write him a letter, but after listening to the segment again on the replay, I'm not quite as angry as I was at first. I WILL continue to listen to their show because I really like Monson - he's kinda the "thinking man's sports editorialist". What I don't agree with, respectfully, is that DadOf8 indicated that there was an agreement amongst all of us on these forums to not listen to their show any further. That's not actually true, and I'll try and address that in my email to Hatch tonight. I think that it's very important that when any of us do send any correspondence to any media outlets, that we purposefully indicate that we DON'T speak for the entire club or group, and that only Glenn, for one, has that authority - at least for the Loyalists, not necessarily for everyone on this board.

Actually all four shows on the zone talk about RSL without callers initiating the callers. Pace played bball in Italy for several years and makes fun of people, Alema, that don't understand the game.

C'mon, don't get hostile to the zone just because you perfer the ticket. I can't stand the ticket, but I won't email Tunis, who needs to find a new line of work, just because one of them pissed me off.

We need to save our crusades for true injustice. Now, if Graham continues, I will call and rip him myself. Well that, and for being a Jets fan.
