Press Release from RSL This just came in via email:
For Immediate Release Contacts: Ronell Hugh – Real Salt Lake www.RealSaltLake.com 801.924.8584 / rhugh [at] RealSaltLake.com Spencer Checketts – Real Salt Lake 801.924.8579 / schecketts [at] RealSaltLake.com REAL SALT LAKE STATEMENT REGARDING BRAMBLE VANDALISM RSL Urges Fans to Express Opinions in a Polite & Civil Way SALT LAKE CITY (Monday, March 7, 2005) – Dean Howes , the Chief Executive Officer of Real Salt Lake, released the following statement regarding the vandalism of Senator Curtis Bramble’s property over the weekend: “ Real Salt Lake is saddened and disappointed by the vandalism of Senator Curtis Bramble’s property in the name of soccer. Our deep sympathies go to the Bramble family. No one should ever be subject to the sort of uncivil and frightening treatment the Bramble’s faced this weekend. “To fans of soccer, the message is simple. Enthusiastic support is one thing, but this sort of behavior is way over the line and unacceptable. We reach out to everyone who loves soccer and ask that opinions be expressed in a polite and civil way. We will, undoubtedly, have differences of opinion along the way. How we work through our differences is what really matters.” www.RealSaltLake.com # # # Ronell Hugh Media Relations Coordinator Real Salt Lake 515 South 700 East, Suite 2R Salt Lake City , UT 84102 (801) 924.8584 rhugh [at] RealSaltLake.com

Jules, please still craft a response from the Loyalists. I am sure Loyal1 would agree. I am sure this could turn into a positive thing for RSL and the Loyalists.

I agree. We need to make sure that this Bramble idiot knows it wasn't the Loyalists. What about those so-called "Salt Lake Hooligans" from BS?

Maybe we should take it one step further and do something nice for Bramble, to let him know that we love him even though he's an idiot. Or maybe just address a letter to him. Or something.

Kinda like tough love?
That might be pushing this "live and let live" idea a bit far, but if you think it will help... we should at the very least debate the issue then vote on it and send it up to the Governor for a sound VETO! but seriously... what could it hurt... besides our pride! Quote:

I've been in Vegas since Thursday so I missed this news. I'm sorry but I just can't take this seriously. Someone wrote with chalk on the man's driveway and left an oversized soccerball.
How terrifying!!! Quick! Throw water on the chalk before it attacks! No, it's not the image we want to portray, but they didn't do any damage. It seems moe like a harmless prank than vandalism. Had they used spraypaint and burned the image of a soccerball into his lawn with fertilizer I'd be more concerned, but you can tell it was more of a goof than an attack. It's irresponsible and not what we want to have the fans viewed as, but I wouldn't call it criminal.

Then we’ll see how he feels about soccer here in Utah.

I agree, Neil, but I think the part that probably concerned him were the notes with messages such as "You have started a war." Kind of the "watch out -- we'll be back" sort of message. Not so good.

No, we don't want to blow this out of proportion. But it was a stupid thing to do and if left as is will reflect badly on us. I doubt any of us would take kindly to someone sneaking around our yards, chalking up our property, and leaving notes talking about "war." So I doubt the not-yet-soccer-fans that we're trying to get aboard the bandwagon will think twice about the group they'd be associating with.
I do think this is an opporunity to define who were really are. So I support Jules' press release. Might seem like overkill, but it will pair well with the release the FO has already put out. As for doing something nice for Sen. Bramble--don't think so. We didn't do anything to him, so we don't need to apologize. We ceetainly don't support sophomoric tactics like these vandals use. The press release can stress that we don't vandalize--but we do vote. Now that's how you get a politician's attention.
