RSL - Crapids [R] 9/2/06

Weird. No game thread for tomorrow's match. I figured I'd start one in the same way any of you would. Even though I'd much rather phrase things differently. 🙂

I hope you all enjoy the game. I wish I was there to streak the RMC presentation. But I'm able to spend some time with my sister on her birthday so I'm not complaining. It'll be fun. 🙂

For a look ahead to the game....

Coach's Corner

Coach Ellinger's weekly show on KALL 700 The Zone. Ryan Hatch hosts the show this week. There's a lot more technical soccer talk than usual since Hatch, as the radio PBP voice of RSL, has been to almost every RSL match to date.
Jack Stewart, Danny Torres, Andy Williams and Chase Harrison make appearances.

Simply terrible game

From the lack of fire from RSL, to the abundance of fight from cRapids; from the lack of fair play from cRapids, to the abundance of fighting from Garlick; from the lack of finishing by RSL, to the abundance of yellow cards from cRapids....

this game sucked.

We had looked over the past 6 weeks to have developed a crisp passing style through the midfield. It was gone gone gone.

Hated it.

First half we didn't control the midfield and everyone looked jittery. 2nd half we looked ok until that goal. We should have got possession of the ball and then kicked it out for our man down. It was like the RSl of old where we stood around waiting for a call while the other team kept playing. Once the goal went in it looked like we wanted to win then. I actually thought that bringing Atiba in was a good idea. He is tall and could get a head on all those lob balls we were sending in. We needed to take shots sooner too. We were holding on too long and getting shut down. I have no idea why in a game this important we would put someone in, Soto, who has only played 20 minutes with us. His passing was off because he hadn't gelled with the team. And where was Kreis? Was he injured? I heard he was not dressed. I will have to see if that goal should have been called out or not. It looked good to me. The ref sucked too. I wanted to win this one so damn bad...

And on the way home to O-town the post game show wasn't on because of coverage of football, a game that i despise.

I actually was under the impression that we still had that one goal all the way up to the final whistle. To be fair, I was a mite distracted by the fans fighting in front of me (and the aftermath of all that). I'm extremely ticked that the classless crapids won, and even more ticked, I think, that the events staff was nowhere to be found, even when fists started flying. What is this, hockey?

North goal, section 25. The short version: Idiot stands up in front of season ticket holders (two rows back), and refuses to sit down. Idiot and season ticket holders jaw back and forth for a while. Idiot then holds his scarf above his head (for spite). Finally the people on the row just behind him ask him to sit down. He refuses, and things start getting heated. RSL Punk starts looking around for event staff. Idiot says something to someone just behind him, who stands up and towers over idiot. At this point, I don't know if idiot pushes the other guy, or if the other guy just takes a poke at idiot. Regardless, they both go flailing down into the next five rows. Someone brighter (and more responsible) than RSL Punk runs up to get event staff. About a minute or more later, one green-shirted guy shows up, then even later, five orange shirts. All the time, the orange-shirted guy down at the bottom of the stairs by the Loyalists (who should have seen any of this), is standing around NOT looking at the stands.

Now, by calling said individual an idiot, I don't mean that he doesn't have the right to defend himself. I mean that at any time, he had the opportunity to back down and sit down, and didn't take it. The other guy involved had a little girl with him, who as they walked up the stairs past me was in tears and sobbing "I hate Real!" Bravo, superfan--you made a little girl cry.

I just read that Kreis had a bruised bone from a foul on Wednesday so he took himslef out of the line up.

That sucks about the fight. we should be punching up the cRapids fans not each other.

I wish i had known that! I scanned the AM, but i guess it was at commercial or something. That sucks. The pre and post game shows always make the drive home better.
