I think that there point was that they didn't think it had to elevate to the status of getting personal with people that they don't know personally. It was about saying things that you would never say to someone if they were standing right in front of them. Those were the kinds of comments that they were criticisizing, not the ones complaining about the team at all.

Not only that but they also went on to say that there was some great stuff on the internet and that they learned a lot by visiting the message boards. They were very complimentary of the insight and knowledge to be had here.

It's interesting to me that different people can hear the same thing and focus on entirely different things.

Is it the first time you've listened? They've had shows in the past where they haven't allowed people to call in who wanted to express anything but joy. Spence has consistently been critical of fans with dissenting opinions. I didn't even hear the bit last night about the message boards, I was commenting on the other 10 or 15 call-in shows that I had listened to.

It's not a matter of taking offense Aerick. It's being treated like morons that I just don't fathom and has left me completely flummoxed.

But continue your love affair with the office that either is lying through their teeth about moving the team or is dangling the team like some sort of bait to get what they want. I'm glad you can smile while biting the edge of your pillow.

See, that's just it. I can't even relate to what you're talking about. I've never felt like they've treated me like a moron. I've never felt that they've lied to me or that they've been dangling the team in front of my face. I don't even know where that's coming from! Perhaps I've had a different interaction (or lack of interaction) with people that have kept me from feeling that way or believing that's the case?

To be honest, I don't listen all that often. I'm usually busy doing other stuff after games. But I do know that what I heard last night wasn't what was being said here. At least from my point of view. I'm not sure what has gone on in the past or how that relates to what was said last night. All I know is what I heard on last night's show.

BYU fan... check (sorry soccerman, you are the only cougar fan I have come across that's an actual realist. I don't mean to lump you into this group).
republican.... check
Sandy resident... check

makes sense.

any who... Time for me to finally jump aboard the SERNoW project.

Who cares what happens any more! Go Jeff F'n Cunningham and Go RSL!

Yeah, because it isn't the "let's-all-bash-the-hand-that-feeds-because-we-don't-like-the-food-it's-giving-us" show. I've heard them address alot of critical calls. I've also heard them say that they'd prefer not to hear from fans who are just spewing negativity. I can understand that. That's not good for their business. And that's what that show is - a business. And it happens to be owned by the team. If it were an "unbiased" talk show, that would be something else.

We don't have one of those for RSL right now. What we have is a post-game show that is owned by the team - of course they're going to want it to have more of a positive spin than a negative one. Perhaps one day when MLS and soccer are big enough in this country, we'll have media outlets with their own post-game call-in shows that you can spew all the criticism you want.

The call-in show is rubbish. The best one was after the LA win Spencer got on the air and started blasting all of those mean media guys who had questioned the performance of his team. I actually called in and said something to the effect of "hey this was a good win, but do you think it is a good idea to start calling out the media because we managed to win one game?" He told me to shut up, hung up on me and spent the next 10 minutes ranting about jerks who were trying to spoil his party. The dude just doesn't have a clue (or tries very hard to make it seem that way), but this is America and that's his right.

Making some major generalities there aren't you? Should it matter that I'm a BYU fan? Should it matter that I'm from Sandy and may be Republican? Are you saying that those types of people have a persistantly optimistic view on life and refuse to see what's REALLY happening?

There is such a thing as a person who views reality and CHOOSES to see the good, and CHOOSES to be happy despite the circumstances, and CHOOSES to believe that people deserve second chances, that people are redeemable, and that they may not have actually been deviant when they made a decision and should be given the benefit of the doubt. And perhaps people who CHOOSE to take this approach over and over and over again in life.

If you're saying that I'm one of these people... guilty. However, I don't think this is a bad way to be - and perhaps the world would be a better place if more people were like this. Just my opinion.

However, you have the freedom to view others and life how you choose (and bringing it back to soccer/RSL), and if that's how you wish to view RSL - then so be it. But don't be too upset if they decide not to be your best friend anymore.
