RSL @ Columbus 8/16/06

Seems to me that this is the first crucial step on closing the season on the road to the playoffs. Columbus is the bottom team in the East. If we are to get points advantage over the rest of our division, we need to win our matches against the East teams, particularly their cellar dweller. The other West teams we are battling for the last playoff spots will all be playing each other getting and giving points. We need to beat all them, too, but this is the first important step.

It is like playing a golf tournament. Everyone else is getting at least birdie on the par 5s. If you don't get a birdie also, then you are losing a stroke to virtually the entire field.

Same thing in this match. We have to expect everyone else to take points from Columbus as the season closes. We need to make sure we are not left behind on that.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=375653&root=mls&cc=5901 ESPN's Ives Galarcep predicts RSL victory.

Also check out the "Things that make you go hmmm" section. Looks like mediocrity is OK with the crappy Crapids.

A loss tomorrow would be more crushing than last year's loss.

Get three points and we are in the playoff race, Lose and face elimination.

I believe that Columbus is the only remaining MLS team we have never earned any points against. Time we took points (hopefully 3) from them.

well, since points is a plural word, it has to be three. There's no way you can take two points. And one is just a point...singular.

-When Joseph Ngwenya wears your #10 shirt, you have issues.

-Ellinger must have read the anti-Atiba threads? Or Jafet Soto is already on the payroll?

Is it just me, or is RSL having a harder time against Columbus than they did against RM? Sheesh! Hopefully they pull it together for the second half.

Is it just me, or does it always look like Cunningham is wearing a pair of high-tops instead of cleats?

Is it just me, or is the MLS "Embrace the Colors" campaign really lame?

No energy in the first half, but had some decent chances.
