Free land sounds nice about now. But I still don't see any way Checketts would go for a stadium that far from downtown with so little development around it. Sounds like Anderson Development would make sure that development happened quickly, though.

Isn't Geneva Steel a lot closer to Salt Lake City than Frisco is to most of metropolitan Dallas? I know that it's going to take me a lot less time to get to Geneva Steel from West Valley City than it took me to get from Fullerton to Pasadena.

Out in Colorado, the Rapids are getting a new stadium that I believe is mostly or totally publicly funded. Site is the old Stapleton Airport and is part of a huge new community. Stadium fits in with entire "we are going to build this new area to live in designed to have residential, commercial, and recreational uses.
Wonder if something like that might work at the old Geneva site. (Hey it's a long ways for me and other SLC fans, but whatever keeps the team close.......)

FWIW, the distance from the proposed site in Sandy to a potential stadium at Geneva is an additional 24 miles. That's really not that far. I can't see how someone who said they would travel to Sandy wouldn't then say those extra 24 miles of freeway driving are simply too much and I won't go.

I can. I can imagine a good portion of Davis county dropping out, or at least thinking twice before making the trip. Utah county is certainly not the best alternative based on population centers, but I don't think it's as terrible as some would make it out to be. Remember, the population center of SL County is already around 70th or 80th South. With Herriman, Draper, Lehi, etc. being one of the fastest growing areas in the entire nation, a stadium in Orem wouldn't be the end of the world. But I would still guess that Orem would average about 10-15% less attendance than a stadium in Sandy.

....making it a 125 mile round trip for me and my family. I support the team wherever they decide to put the stadium. I WANT it in Utah. But my support as a season ticket holder would end. There is no way I could do this.
