They played their big name players against the Galaxy. Why wouldn't they do the same in August, as they are getting ready for their season?

1) They might be in the midst of qualifying for the Champions League.
2) Many of their first team players will have just finished the World Cup.

2 years ago RM cancelled its summer tour due to CL qualifying.

Do you really think coming all the way to lil' ole Utah will help them prepare for their season? I can think of many better ways for them to prepare for their season, particularly since by August they will have their new manager in place and undoubtedly a bevy of new players.

Yep, they will almost certainly bring Beckham and Ronaldo. They will almost certainly bring a few starters. This trip is as much marketing as it is a preseason game. Ronaldo and Beckham are interested in marketing themselves in the U.S. and probably won't miss a chance like this one. We may even see them on the field for 10 minutes or so...

This is a good point I had considered. Now that it has been brought up, I heard there is a mandatory break/time off players must have. I saw it mentioned in an article last year when it talked about how much traveling Real Madrid had done, and how much actual break players had. Does anyone know how long of a break the teams are required to give players? That would play a key factor as to what players come.

Wow. I think this has been the busiest thread on these boards in a long, long time. 95 posts in just a couple days is lot.

NEAUOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! 😉

Ok, now that I got that out of my system, I think the potential ticket draw (extra 20k seats at $30+ per seat = $600,000+) is significant, but traffic will be a problem. It always is. Renting either stadium may come out to a wash financially. Other than that, it would sure be fun!!!

Dang... I thought I lived in California. All this time I though my neighbors were saying they moved here "to Calfornia" when they actually were saying "from California." :jawdrop:

The only rule I'm aware of is a English football union rule that states that no player "may participate in a match for at least 30 days after the World Cup."
