No.

I'm amazed at our depth at GK, FB, and HB. FW not so much. We all know McBride can get it done, but who's going to step up alongside him? Eddie Johnson is a streaky player but he'll probably be hurt anyway. Wolff's done nothing internationally and I'm amazed Ching even made the roster. I guess I'd feel better if we had another forward with WC experience, but I guess I'm just splitting hairs.

Overall this is unquestionably the best team we've fielded for a WC in any of our lifetimes. It's a shame we don't have a more balanced group (not to mention a potential 1st round date with Brazil) to show against it.

I wasn't too surprised about Berhalter - he really stunk up the field against Germany last month.

About Ching, I guess the whole big target arguement is right. I don't know too much about how Czech Republic plays, but don't they have a big back line? And with Italy's defensive style, maybe its more important to cross the ball in and try and head it with the big target forwards. I think TT is better by far, but maybe Bruce was paying more attention to specific matchups in group play.

Finally about the depth of our forwards - I heard mention before that DMB and Landon can both play as forwards in the cup if needed. We have plenty of depth in the midfield, so maybe one of them (probably Landon over DMB) will be put up top if we need them (maybe against Ghana, perhaps Brazil?).

Yes and no. Weren't there 11 MLS players on the roster in 2002 as well? So did the league improve in the past four years? Of course, but the numbers can be skewed to show it hasn't. Also, how many of those 11 will not be playing in MLS next year, especially if the USMNT gets out of the group?

My thought is that Ching was chosen over Twellman because of Donovan. Donovan and Ching have history and worked well together in SJ. My guess is that Arena saw that as a plus for Ching.

Personally I would have taken Twellman, but Ching isn't bad by any means.

Now putting on My RSL cap.

The Galaxy w/o Landon: YES!
We face the wiz w/o johnson, conrad and wolff....SWEET!
The cRapids...
Houston w/o Ching
New England w/o Dempsy

I"m pretty happy about that stretch until July.

Of course it works both ways. We will be without Sequira, Pope and I believe Klein as an alternate will still be going to Germany (won't he?).

CRapids will have no Mastroeni.

alternates don't go IIRC. The ussoccer PR says only 20 players are expected to report, the other three finishing euro league seasons.

all I can say is, we lose our guys sure, but we get to see our new guys play. Also, without Landy, we win that game last week (LA is going to struggle).

Almost all the alternates are from MLS.
