I don't believe so. They step in only if someone gets hurt.
However, I should add that you never know what might happen with someone on the alternate list. Case in point: Pablo Mastroeni. He was an alternate in '02, but when Chris Armas went out with an injury just weeks prior to the 2002 World Cup, Pablo found himself a surprise starter in the opening game, and played well as the US upset heavily-favored Portugal 3-2. By the end of 2005, he earned 43 caps and is near the top of the US defensive depth chart.

BTW, did you guys know that Convey is partially blind in his left eye due to optic nerve damage?

He plays his butt off. SP should appreciate that he has both a Philly and FLA connection.

Oh yea, and then there's Eddie Johnson, who also trained at Bradenton.

Another observation is how depleted KC is going to be with Jimmy Conrad, Eddie Johnson and Josh Wolff all being named to the squad.

In a way this is fortunate for NE because of the 5 NE players named, 4 of them are just alternates.

Some seem to think that those extras will probably be at the team training camp in case of injury. I guess we'll find out shortly.

I hope the alternate midfielders keep a bag packed, 'cause Reyna and JOB are pretty much always broken.

Is anyone else excited that almost half the players on the roster are MLS players?
