I am sad. All the players I was really attatched to are gone (I know, I know, MLS is not T-ball) I get why he was traded, but damnit, I liked his fire. After losing all these boys, we should have gotten more than a coffee table book for renewing our tickets. Like a "sorry your boyfriends were traded, have a massage on us" kind of thing. Boo boo boo! 😇

Cunningham--fringe, national-teamer at best. Has sort of come back into contention for a spot on the USNMT because of the 2005 season, but his chance of making it to Germany are very remote.

Sequiera is a central defender who can also play as a holding mid. (And, as someone pointed, he's going to be away for much of the early season because of his duty with the Costa Rican team.

Clint is a guy who just USED to have phenominal talent...

Yea, he and Kirovski are going to terrorize with their change of pace...slow and slower.

Not if Eddie Johnson is fit.

Addition through subtraction. The HUGE problem was that neither of those 2 are effective strikers...so you had to play both in the mid. Nightmare both offensively (too similar) and defensively (obvious).

You must be kidding...we just picked up one of the fastest players in the league who is a magician with the ball...to play on turf...and got rid of a player who was either a non-factor or a cancer, depending on his mood, who never recovered from 2 knee surgeries...

Thank goodness!!! Hey, we agreed on something!

There are rumors floating around that Cannon and Mastroeni both may move to Europe in the January transfer window. That's Cunningham, Nkong, Mastroeni, Kotschau, and Cannon missing from our best 11 and all we've added is Cornell Glen and Mathis.

I'm predicting that the Under-a-Chivas make the playoffs, but the Rapids finish in 5th in front of FSL and still take the Rocky Mountain Cup!

OK, maybe not, but I got to have faith! :signrocko

No reason for us to burst your bubble now. We'll let it get burst the slow, agonizing way that ours was burst last season. Cheers!

Clint was about the only midfielder we had last year who wasn't constantly disposessed in the midfield...

which he hasn't been for a long time, is still rehabbing the toe...it'll take a full recovery and a lot of work to get Eddie back in form after this year...Cunningham on the other hand has shown well when he's played with the USMNT this year...is it certain he'll be in Germany, no, but I'd give him far better odds than I'd give Freddy Adu.

The Huge proble is that when we played Cleetus up front briefly, we couldn't get the ball past the midfield. We tried 3 players at A-mid instead of Cleetus this year...Jason, Kamler, Williams...all 3 with fairly dismal results. Williams did the best job at replacing Cleetus, though he was far from an improvement.

This quote refers to Andy as being a more cost-effective A-mid than Cleetus...not that Cunningham is a more cost-effective solution than Clint...did I misplace a modifier? I think the criticism is valid...was Clint enough better at A-mid than Andy to warrant the extra $300K? NO, but he was certainly better.
Is Cunningham a good pick-up? YES...I believe I said so...Does getting rid of Cleetus solve any of our midfield problems? NO!

Clearly having a dangerous striker is a GREAT thing...Is this a good trade? I don't know, for where RSL is...yes. Though it would have been nice to have enough talent to be able to effectively utilize Clint.

Provo, I'm looking at you.

Did you not read the first line of my post? I'm glad Mathis is gone too. But I've also followed Cunningham's career and there's a reason he's been traded twice in a couple of years. I'm confident that I know what I'm talking about.

If this was the only way to get Mathis off our team, then it was a good trade. But I have no illusions about what Cunningham will bring to the team. Hopefully, he can bring the same intensity to us that he showed at Colorado, but, then, he was really auditioning for Germany. We'll see if last year was for real or just a one year blip.

I agree. Clint always looked like the guy who tried to eat the 6 pound steak so he could eat for free about the the time he had eaten 4 pounds. And then you have to finish off the gristle. He worked his mouth a lot though. He only really showed effort once the national team started watching him, about the time of the away game in colorado. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
