I cannot even tell you how happy I am right now... :dancing: :wine:

We just got a whole hel* of a lot more dangerous offensively and do not have to worry about Mathis and Williams on the field at the same time defensively.

Happy happy joy

That's a really good point. I asked someone months ago why RSL wouldn't release Mathis if they couldn't work out a trade with someone, and I was told Ellinger was worried Mathis would land somewhere and play out of his mind just to spite Salt Lake.

So, I've spent the last 20 minutes or so trying to figure out why this trade makes and sense for Colorado, and I'm still sort of scratching my head. From what I've heard out of Denver, Cunningham was on the trading blocks anyway, but a straight swap for Mathis? And they're going to pocket Mathis' salary, too? I mean, Clint's talent is undisputable, but it's clear he hasn't been a class player for a long time and there aren't signs he can return to form at all.

From RSL's perspective, they just accomplished goal No. 1 for this franchise during the offseason: Offload Mathis. IMO, Real couldn't have built a successful team with him in the side, for a variety of reasons. And they got rid of his salary and inherited an MLS all-star and fringe national-teamer in return? Not bad, I'd say.

In case anyone missed it, the link it here

Looks like the press release went out 3:17 Mountain time.

And if the Rapids took all of Mathis' salary, what about Cunningham do they know that we don't?

Great deal.

Clint reminds me of some stock I held a couple of years ago. It kept losing a few pennies every day, but I was reluctant to let go of it, because I knew it could *potentially* explode and make me happy. The reality, of course, is that I was dreaming and/or stupid and should have sold early and come out with at least something. RSL did the right thing, here.

I still think, however, that Clint was underrecognized last year as far as the quality of free kicks that he brought to the team, and it's a void that will no doubt be felt at times next year.

Also, it saddens me that this move may indicate that RSL wasn't planning on building the team around Tarley.

I know he's had issues getting along with his coaches at times.

I don't know the specifics, though, so maybe our favorite rocket science will grace us with his presence soon and enlighten us...

Well, I was stubbornly hoping that Cletus would stay, but if he had to go, this sounds like a fairly decent way for it to happen. I'm intrigued by the idea of having Cunningham on our side. I'm a little worried about playing against Clint four times every year... Maybe more than a little worried, actually.

Also, Cunningham's speed is great, but another 5'8" guy doesn't exactly make us stronger in the air in front of the box.

Just trying to add a touch of pessimism here, is all.

Your job is mild sarcasm and humor, not pessimism. Where the heck is sl7vk?
