RSL Sightings

Let it be known that this thread will be used for all manner of RSL sightings. Did you see somebody wearing RSL gear? Was RSL mentioned on TV? Did Mötley Crue name their new album after Pastorino? Here is the place to talk about it.

I'll start because I got this idea after seeing somebody on campus here (I go to the large university in Provo that sucks at sports) wearing a Real hat. I was wearing mine too so we had a good point-finger-at-hat-nod-knowingly-confuse-everyone-around moment. Any other sightings?

Every time I see my sister's truck or look in the back window of my car, I do a double take when I see the RSL cling. 🙂 But I haven't much else so far. I don't get out much...

The day of the name/colors announcement, I saw a dude at South Towne Mall wearing a red RSL T-shirt.

ESPNews just announced Guevara as MLS MVP and went on to advertise the expansion draft for Chivas and Real Salt Lake. That may be one of the first national mentions of our Royals.

So, Wednesday I was at the bank depositing Loyalist dues...

the manager: Hey, you're "our soccer guy".
teller 1: Are you one of the main guys?
Loyal1: We're sort of like the Muss of RSL.
teller 1: Oh...
teller 2: I'm in the Muss.
teller 3 (older lady): We are getting so much crap all across the country about what he named the team.
Loyal1: But you know it's a soccer team. If it were the tigers or bears it could be confused with the local softball team.
teller 3 (lurking on BS?) Well people from Australia and NY are poking fun at the name.
Loyal1: People in Utah are making fun of the white sox.
manager: you should get us some t-shirts or something.
Loyal1: um, yea.

Haha that's a great story Loyal1. Well at least some of them knew what Real Salt Lake is! The evening after the Oct 9 announcement I was wearing my RSL shirt around and some guy said "hey is that the new team?" so I think there is some recognition.

That is a great story. I can tell this is going to be a great thread, if people keep posting cool stories like that! :D

Sorry no really cool story here, but I did get my second RSL shirt this week from MLSgear (man they are late, my scarf doesn't ship til Nov. 19). Its all white short sleeve with a small RSL crest in the middle. Looks real nice!
BTW I am wearing my RSL red shirt to the USMNT game next week, look for me on ESPN2! (I'll have a little all-red 2 year old at my side).

I wasn't sure if my story would fit under this topic, but now that I've seen similar material I have to tell it.

The week after the announcement I was wearing my red RSL shirt on campus. I walked past this kid who gave me a funny look. After he had walked about 10 yards past me I hear, "HEY!" Realizing I was the only other person around I turned to see if he was talking to me.

"Is that a Real Salt Lake shirt?", the stranger asks.

"It is," I reply.

"That's sweet! Where did you get it?"

The story goes on and he asks where to get merchandise and I directed him to Fanzz and the other places. Mind you, this is in Logan. 90 miles north of the SL valley.

Anyways, I thought it was cool.

One sighting I was pleased with was on the Wes Ruff sports talk show he has a red RSL Jersey and Hat hanging behind the discussion table.
That was cool...

The Banner that was used at the news conference at RES is on a rooftop near 45th south. can be best seen travelling northbound on I-15, on the east side of the freeway. Just before the Humane Society sign.

Other than those two sightings, I have not seen any RSL gear around unless I am wearing it. I got the "white" logo t-shirt and rather nice logo hat!

Where can I get some window clings for my Jeep?
