Trust me on this if nothing else........you do not want Utah ending up like southern California........

But on the other hand, I head on the radio that a Trax stop is going in at 9400 South?

Is that right?

That will cut down on cars at the games.

As soon as Davis/Weber commuter rail goes in, they could run a Football Special for your northerners.

Off topic, but while we're talking about Urban Planning; who's up for some runs down the Green Dot trails at Kennecot's new ski resort?

Steve Pastorino came down to our section last night during the first half and talked to us aobut our feelings on the stadium. He listened intently and gave us his views on the situation. I give him a TON of credit for coming down and being concerend enough to hear how we felt. He did encourage us to continue to state our opinion and not just fall in line with the rest. We have a different view and we are entitled to bring it to the Front Office and other local leaders. Thank you Steve.

When Real Salt Lake was first announced I seem to remember them talking about how it was huge for the Hispanic community. In almost everything that was said about the team was tied into the Hispanic community. It was something the team was catering to because of the huge Hispanic population we have in Utah.

Now, where is the Hispanic community located? Areas like Rose Park and West Valley. I know they are going to build a Traxx station at 9400 South and it is going to be 'oh so wonderful', but where are the Traxx stations from the West Side? They are not going to be built until years after the stadium.

The whole 'Sandy is still in Salt Lake County' is also a cop out. Teams are not named for their counties. They are named after the cities they represent or the State. I am pretty sure when they named the team Real Salt Lake they weren't thinking it was because the county is Salt Lake. It was because Salt Lake City is THE CITY in Utah. It is where tourists come to visit. They come for conventions and other activities in Utah and when they are here they go visit the Temple, the Capitol, and other historic sites downtown. They eat at classy restaurants downtown. They don't go to sandy to eat at the Mayan that is for sure.

that's good.

And I think it's a mistake to say Sandy will be the "downtown" of the valley. It can never be that because it can't support the density of a downtown area.

Tom Dolan and others are following an economic model that pays out big economic and political dividends now,

but it will be at the cost of our families tomorrow. And when we and our kids are saddled with the sad realities of this type of development in destroyed neighborhoods, dead developments and stagnation

He, and Curtis and Bramble will be long retired and probably dead of heart failure because they should be playing soccer instead of turning it into a dirty political game. That's what they count on. They make their money now. But we pay for it later.

L.A. has light rail (trax) and commuter rail. That's only part of the equation. If we continue developing like we do, the public transit won't matter. Just like it doesn't matter in LA

The drive from Santa Ana, Pacoima or City Terrace to Victoria Street is a lot longer than the drive from Rose Park to Sandy will be.

Heck, it probably takes longer to get from Long Beach now that you have to drive in port traffic.

And the Galaxy's ticket prices are a lot higher than Real's will be.

And the Denny's Omlettes are selling lots of tickets.

We don't have to live in LA, but we will as long as we choose this sort "now now now! Wherever wherever wherever!" development.

Actually the wherever now thing has slowed somewhat recently. You have heard of Envision Utah, right? If SLC wanted to concentrate development in the city, they should have annexed the entire valley a century ago. Several of these secondary business districts you see popping up are a result of cities competing with each other. In an metro area this small, they should be in Ogden and Provo, not Sandy and West Valley City.

Also the LA phenomenon won't be repeated here. We have some limiting geographic features they don't have. Also, we are working on better mass transit plans than they have the imagination for.

None of this however, has anything to do with Checketts picking Sandy for the Stadium. I still don't understand the depth of the bitterness towards the selection of Sandy. I understand being dissappointed, but not the progression toward suicide bomber.

I can't believe we just turned down a relocation to Phoenix... promotion, pay raise and, most importantly, decent city planning.... sigh... At least I have soccer.

Do you think anyone outside of the state or perhaps even the Wastach Front makes a distinction between SLC and the rest of the valley? Teams are named for their cities, true. But this is more like complaining about a team moving from the Bronx to Manhattan.

I think that it is great that Steve has encouraged you to disagree. Also that you have so much passion and that you have a differing opinion... that is what makes all of this fun...

but seriously this has been debated for close to three days now...
Do you honestly believe that all of the energy you are expending debating, ranting and raving will make them change their minds?

Do you think that they will all of a sudden say "Hey maybe that guy is right?" "Maybe we should scrap the millions of dollars in committed funds for the Sandy Stadium and just build it downtown afterall!"
I am thinking that you will be waiting a very long time.

Seriously if you have all that energy and effort to waste on this futile effort, maybe you could channel it into something more productive. Like promoting soccer in your community and motivating the fence sitters into coming out next season to support the team.

All I see any of this accomplishing is giving the impression that soccer fans are a bunch of whiners and don't know a good thing when they see it!

I am not just rolling over and accepting what is handed out, I have made my points known in the past.

I have supported this team since the begining, I have made my suggestions and had my rants. In the end they chose a different solution to what I wanted. That does not make me a rollover for saying "Ok it is not what i thought was ideal but it is acceptable."

What is the alternative? Waste time and energy telling a bunch of politicians that they are wrong and that they did a bad thing. Remember these are people that don't give a toss what you think unless it is election time.

Dave Checketts tried to get it downtown... it was blocked at every turn... So what do you want him to do about it? Seriously, WHAT?

I think Dave Checketts has made the decision based on what he could realistically make happen... and I accept his choice and applaud that he tried at all.

At some point you are just going to have to accept it... so why keep putting off the inevitable?
