Excellent point!!

Glad you're sticking around, Jules.

By the way, can you get a different avatar? That picture of the RMC kills me each time I see it now. 😠

I've got a solution to all of this:

We support MLS and Real to the level where not only does Salt Lake get another team, but it's also profitable enough to get another stadium in the valley - this time in downtown!!!

.

I was in Portland for the '97 US - Costa Rica qualifier and those Oreganos might be on to something.

(That's the adjectival form of Oregon. Oregano.)

Oregon has no sales tax but a relatively high property tax. So there's less incentive to build a Walmart on every block and acre lots are less attractive.

Or at the very least, their taxation methods seem to lead to really good brewpubs. It's something worth looking into.

OH man, can you see a Salt Lake/ Sandy soccer rivalry?

That would be crazy!! But at that point Sandy would have to change their name from Real Salt Lake to something else and they would lose the hispanic population.

And me.

random information from a ksl poll yesterday:

"Thirty percent say it's more likely they'll attend a game, 24% say less likely, 45% say no difference." (with the stadium in Sandy as opposed to SLC)

So a net increase of about 6%. Interesting. I wonder if some of the "less likely" were merely expressing their frustration with the location and will come around when the stadium is finally built. Who would be less likely to see a game in a soccer specific stadium built specifically for Real?

That's the problem with polls. It is only an indicator of what people think about the stadium location and not an indicator of what attendance will be like.

I do think an increase of 6% on a 60 million "visionary" and "inspired" development is very, very lame

and shows that few are doing backflips over this. You'd think that being backed by suburban heroes Dolan and Curtis and Bramble plus being in the backyard of so many people

the margin would be a lot higher

but it's not. And I'm not surprised.

What the @#$% are you talking about? If the stadium would have been in SLC, the margin would have been -6%, and the price tag would be higher. How is it that more people liking the Sandy location than the SLC location as far as "being likely to attend games" makes the location "very, very lame"? The numbers, albeit very raw and with probably a bit of a margin of error, indicate that putting the stadium in SLC would have been, in your words and logic, very, very, VERY lame.
