OK, once the talk of "glory days" comes up I have to jump in.
Rivalries are great. I prefer the Aggie-Ute rivalry since it's older and is blessed to be devoid of the religion issue that can produce such ridiculousness in the Utah-BYU among some "fans." But until the Aggies fully upgrade their program we're stuck with Utes-Cougars as the big game. In reality, it's probably going to stay that way no matter what. I guess I must just be enough older that I remember the pre-LaVell Edwards days of Ute dominance. And I mean complete and utter dominance. Here are the pertinent facts: Utah records in the U-Y series: Before LE: 38-5-4 LE: 7-22-0 After LE: 3-1-0 I'm using BYU math here--they don't count the BYA games, so the series started in 1922 according to the Y. Here's the point. Sure, BYU had the upper hand in the 70's and early 90's, and dominated in the 80's. My guess is that most of the fanbase grew up during those years, so their perspective is influenced by that. In the bigger picture, the one BYU win in four attempts since LaVell Edwards retired are a return to normalcy in the series. Now, both these programs are at a level that sustained dominance by either team in unlikely. But it's clear that the 29 years of LE are the anomaly, and BYU has some work to do to change that. __________________

29 years of dominance is an anomaly? I think we all know what the all-time records are between the two teams. But what revelance do games prior to 1950 have today? None, other than Utah fans being able to put a feather in their cap.

Time out...
If you are counting MORAL VICTORIES BYU is still undefeated. Go COUGS.

I would love to know what the record was for the years that Norm Chow was there.

On that same note, what relevance do games prior to 1990 have today?

Has the game of football changed that much between then and now? Should games from 1928 be weighted as heavily as games today? Sure Utah dominated pre 1950 but then they were playing in the land of who could care less. Football was nothing then. Last edited by RSLfrontrowfan : 09-27-2005 at 01:54 PM.

I guess they don't, in fact, I don't believe they were played. I think we should take a stat and use it to our benefit and knowledge. I don't care before 2001, they don't have any relevance to now. so from 2002-2004 the utes lead the series 3-0.
LMAO!!! are you kidding me about not counting all wins. LOL! __________________

Who said anything about not counting all wins? I'm talking about weighting the wins. You think the 14-33 Utah loss to Drake seen by 20 people in 1924 meant as much as the Utah vs Air Force games last week?
