Did you guys catch this in the ESPN article?:

With the only other option being to stay on as an overpaid practice body, Mathis began planning a return to MLS. He put in a call to John Ellinger asking him if he would have him. Ellinger, fully aware that his Real Salt Lake squad would be starving for star power, didn't hesitate to say yes. MLS, which has lost its best goalkeeper (Tim Howard), defender (Carlos Bocanegra), midfielder (DaMarcus Beasley) and forward (Landon Donovan) in the past 16 months, wasn't about to say no.

This is a huge thread over on BS.

Don't know how legit this Hannover96girl is but they claim to be a subscriber to an exclusive newspaper (there are links to the articles but my German is non-existent) that has stated that Clint Mathis has signed a contract that goes thru 2010 to play for RSL and that Cleatus has already planned a big goodbye party.

I am not sure if I am perpetuating a falsehood, so I am not going to form an opinion until I have heard yours.

So I will leave it to all of your good judgement! Let me know what you all think!

Mathis is on his way back to MLS. The league completed a transfer deal that will send Mathis to Real Salt Lake. An announcement is expected later this month.
