Too bad the first part of the article (most likely to be read) starts out by describing his announcement this way:

"Zzzzzzzzzzz... two million Utah sports fans do not care."

Now we're seeing some of the anti-soccer stuff coming out... You have to read to the end of the article to get a positive spin on things.

BTW The Trib, Utah and Sports West wishes it had 2 million sports fans.

From US Census website:
Quote:
The 2000 actual count for Utah is 2,233,169
For those of you at home with pocket calculators, that would 90% of Utahns were sports fans. No way. 🙂

👍

The writer is obviously not a soccer fan, but look on the bright side. It is a very positive article, considering the source. And, other than the rather stupid statement just mentioned, it is quite a good article.

I think he is right, in that Cletus, and Jason Kreis may well become something akin to Stockton-Malone, which even non-basketball fans (me, for instance) were aware of. I once saw them work together and was a fan (of only them) for years.
I think this would be very good for soccer in Utah. We love to love players.

As soon as they get a car dealership named after them, I'll believe soccer is really mainstream here! 😉

Rocky Anderson Lobbied Mathis???

NY Times says this

He still had not decided to come back to the United States when the mayor of Salt Lake City, Rocky Anderson, lobbied him in a phone call. Mathis, who was entertaining offers from three other Bundesliga clubs and two M.L.S. clubs, will be the second-highest-paid player in the league this year, behind D.C. United's Freddy Adu. ...

That's a lot of money. At least comparitively. Nothing compared to what other sports stars make, of course.
