Raise the rep limit?

I think we should lay off the Neil-Meister.
I am not brown-nosing when I say I appreciate the forum that he has provided for us to talk about RSL. It is the most active board I post on. (I post on 4 different boards)
I am a huge fan of RSL as many of you already know.

One thing that concerns me is the quality of posts has seriously diminished since all the rep-begging began.

I admit I have participated in a few beg-o-thons but I found that I get repped less after that than I do for posting good informative posts or match photos.
It seems that Rep is becoming like an addiction... the more you get the more you have to have.

But seriously I can only speak for myself and I am certainly not afraid to do that!

This whole rep begging started as a little tiny joke that... really is just not funny anymore...
There comes a time when enough is enough.

For the folks that are complaining about the forum or the way it is run.... there is always BS and MatchNight forums that will accomodate all of your whinging.

One man's opinion here.

I'm on this board because it's not the testosterone-fest that I saw (and still refuse to join) over at BS.

I thank Neil for that, as well as those who have stepped up to moderate. And I also thank the forum members, who have by and large kept the focus on RSL and building support for the club.

So although I understand the points being made about limits on rep (that was the original beef, right?), it's not enough to get me wound up.

We've got a good thing going here. I'd like to keep it that way.

I will never suggest that people don't share their opinions, but we have on occasion gotten a little too personal. I am probably guilty of that as well, but it is fine to disagree with opinions without getting personal. Perhaps we all need to review what we learned about civic dialogue in our high school social studies classes. 😎

Doesn't that emoticon make me look arrogant?

Am I wrong or is the forum this was posted under called "suggestions"?!?

Am I wrong or are the rep-begging threads (which I find hilarious) uniformily in the off-topic area where anything goes?!? If you don't want to read non-RSL stuff, don't go into the off-topic area (off-topic means it is not about RSL, or soccer in general probably).

If you don't want to be bothered by humorous rep begging threads, don't read threads called "how many points do you have", or "I will eat live goldfish for rep", or "raise the rep limit".

If you are going to act like the kid on the playground who takes his ball and goes home when he starts to lose if someone makes a suggestion (one made in response to multiple people suggesting the limit be raised), then don't have an area called "suggestions" in the forums.

I don't really care about the rep limit. I honestly was just making a suggestion that many other people have also made. I never saw our admin address such requests, so I posted it where it belongs, in the suggestions forum.

I actually happen to agree with Neil. I'm getting pretty tired of all the posts that are simply begging for rep. The board is getting pretty big now as it is. It's not uncommon to go away for a couple of hours to return to 50-100 posts. It becomes a little tedious when a quarter of those posts are simply about people begging for rep. It wastes my time.

Since you offered to host this site for free, you obviously have the money to host your own site, so I say go right ahead and do it. You even have loyalists.org if you want. That way you can have as much rep as you want every single day, dole it out to everyone, and talk about it all the time. But if you want to post here, maybe you should respect the site administrator's wishes. After all, nothing at all is stopping you from making your own rep whore site if you want and no one is forcing you to remain here if things just aren't fun enough for you without begging for rep.

Does this post make me pompous too? Probably. Oh well.

Go back to the beggining, and read the thread from the start. Tell me that Neil's response was not pompous. He doesn't have to raise the limit, I really don't care, but I do think he was a jerk about it, especially in a forum soliciting "suggestions".

As far as I am aware, the rep begging posts are all in the off-topic area. If you don't want to read things like that, just avoid topics specifically marked as "off-topic".

And seriously, as I read posts throughout the day I find many that are rep-worthy. I never have enough rep points to give out to all the ones I think deserve it.

I don't think that your reply was pompous in the least. Just taking this site too seriously. And if you want seriousness, just avoid the off-topic area.

I would have taken that about as well as I do when people come in to my classroom and try and tell me how to teach. I guess another occupation just joined the short list of jobs that everyone thinks they can do better than the people who can actually do them.
