I was explaining to a Brazilian what West Valley was like and I compared it to the most crime ridden, dirty, grafiti-marked barrio in Sao Paulo, Diadema. If any of you have been to Diadema, then you know West Valley is similar. If you haven't, I wouldn't recommend it.
Note to self: Check off West Valley City as potential future home site...

It seems like making broad generalizations about people and labeling them is the lazy man's way of understanding the world. It's much more difficult to see the complexity in the world and allow for it than it is to make broad categories and stuff people into them.

That's just my take on it. Feel free to rip it apart. I enjoy hearing different viewpoints. It's the spice of life.
I wasn't referring to a holier than thou than attitude as much as more of an uptight, unaccepting attitude, people that can't laugh at themselves and take themselves and the religion too seriously. Obviously all Mormons in Utah aren't Utah Mormons. The south end of the Salt Lake Valley is full of the same phenomenon. In terms of holier than thou, I find that people who call themselves liberal, which should include an open mind, exhibit more of a holier than thou attitude than Utah Mormons. So, that is where I was going. By the way if you didn't laugh at Mormon Rap, that would probably put you in that category.

Someone like me--you know, fiercely republican, uberconservative, uptight, holier-than-thou, close-minded, really superior acting, naive about the "real world".

Oh wait... I'm not republcan. I'm conservative about moral issues but not without putting a lot of serious thought into things. I'm anxious personality-wise but that's the way some people are built. I am much less holier-than-thou than a lot of people who are very unmormon (that has nothing to do with religion when you think about it), and I'm open-minded about learning whatever I can from people very different from me. And I probably should have been expelled from BYU for my level of "naivete" at times.

So, you know... a Utah Mormon is someone like me. Or at least like what people would assume about me when they know I am a stay-at-home mom in the UC.

I wouldn't call you a Utah Mormon.

Is it possible to be a holier-than-thou Feminazi?

Just wondering, like...

I wouldn't call Hinckley a Utah Mormon either.

Not all of West Valley is that bad, but there are definitely a few pockets that are. There are parts of SLC that are much worse.
