Do you know of some secret tunnel or something that takes you directly from Ogden to Rice-Eccles without having to drive through the city? I'd take a direct drive on I-15 straight to Sandy any day over having to get off of I-15 and fight city trafic not to mention intersections/lights every 500 yards.

Apparently you've never tried to drive south to Sandy after 5pm.

I do it at least 5 days a week. I can't comment on the commute south from Ogden to the "spaghetti bowl" after 5:00pm (on weekdays) but I get on I-15 southbound at approx 5:15pm mon-fri from I-80 all the way down to 9000 S. Like I said I'd take that commute any day over having to get off of I-15 and go either west or east. Most of the games are on Saturdays anyway and I know the I-15 southbound traffic isn't nearly as bad on Saturdays as it is on weekday evenings.

I can appreciate your point if you're saying you'd prefer the stadium to be built further North as opposed to further South, but if you're comparing the commute to Sandy to the Commute to Rice-Eccles (that you're making now) I honestly don't see a difference. It adds maybe a few more miles but total commute time would probably end up being negligible based on my experience (5 days a week, 4 weeks a month, 12 months a year - for the last 4 years).

i live in northern midvale by the fashion place mall. i went to high school at juan diego which is on 118th south and 300 east. i did drive that freeway. every. single. day (including saturdays AND sundays for soccer practice). i can tell you now that it USED to be a trouble spot driving from 90th south to the point of the mountain. well yesterday i decided to go out to high school for the first time in 2 years and i was completely shocked. they have widened the freeway to atleast 5 lanes and at some spots 6 lanes in each direction. i went out late in the day when traffic used to be the worst in the whole valley. you see it used to be that traffic would be backed up usually as far as 72nd south from 123rd south. not anymore. sure traffic might be a little bad from time to time, but now there are 2 lanes for exits onto 106th south and 2 lanes for 90th south. plus you dont have to worry about 6 lanes getting squished down to 3 lanes anymore so traffic will not be bad out there. oh and by the way, i have driven from 90th to south temple (for a jazz game) in 7 minutes, it is entirely possible.

of course i dont support the sandy spot. what a bad place for a SSS. way to far south and traffic to actually get in to that location will be a flippin mess. its off of state street a ways and there are only a couple little roads that lead into the place (good thing i know of a couple other streets that would make it easier to get to it). right now i think the SSS is getting further and further away from where it belongs. it belongs downtown. if that doesnt work then murray. please please please dont put it in sandy.

I agree that Sandy (more than 5 blocks from I-15) is a serious hassle to get into. There just aren't enough high capacity roads for all those people. They just stuff them onto state street, 90th south, and 106th south. Even the Riverton/Draper exit gets Sandy traffic. Anyhow, anywhere that has a more accesible site would be preferable in my opinion. Of course, I'm from the UC and the further south the better... but Sandy is a bad south. Murray is a good north. Does that make sense?

to bad there isnt a spot somewhere in midvale to put it. everything in midvale is too far west from the freeway and has a similar situation to that of sandy in that the roads are too small for so many cars. it would make me happy in that it would be close to my house 🙂 . the murray spot isnt too bad. they really should be working on that. to be honest however, im just glad we are argueing over whether to put it in sandy, murray or downtown. 9 times out of 10, conversations around topics like this usually dont happen. more often than not its people not wanting to build a stadium. i just hope it gets built, anywhere. personal preferences are a back seat issue to me.

From the information you posted, there difference between going to RES from Ogden (39) and Southtowne from Ogden (51) is twelve miles (51-39=12). In order to go 12 more miles in the 5 minutes you suggested, you would have to be going 144 mph. So, it takes close to 10 minutes (@ 72 mph) to go the extra distance. Of course, this doesn't take into account any differences in speed that would be required (such as stoplights, surface roads, etc.) so it might be more or less. Clear as mud yet? 😉

But in my experience, it takes about 10-12 minutes to get to Sandy after getting on the freeway at 5th South.

I still say Sandy isn't such a bad idea if we're comparing Sandy (depends on the location in Sandy) to Rice-Eccles. To be fair lets compare. You can only come into Rice-Eccles from two directions on only two high capacity roads (both of which are far away from highways); West (up 400 S.) and South (Foothill Blvd - which does connect to I-80/I-215 but several blocks south going through about a dozen intersections). In Sandy you'd be able to come from all directions with many more options of high capacity roads. If we're talking about a location near the Sandy City Complex (which is not even a block from I-15) you could come North or South on several different high capacity roads depending on where you are coming from; on I-15, on State Street, on 700 E. Coming East or West you have 9000 S, 9400S, 10600 S, or even 7800 S, 7200 S or 12300S. if traffic exiting I-15 was backed up too far on 90th and 106th.

Based on this how is this Sandy location worse than Rice Eccles?
