Concacaf Champions Cup [R]

I don't see this posted anywhere, sorry if I missed it:

I watched the end of the DC United - Harbor View game and all of the KC Wizards - Saprissa match.

Leg 1 results:

DC United 2 - 1 Harbor View
KC Wizards 0 - 0 Saprissa

I like competitions like these because we get to see how our league stacks up to others, just like the Champions League. DC only won by 1 goal but they controlled the whole game, they looked very sharp. KC didn't look too good and would have lost if not for a couple of great saves by Oshiniyi.

The 2nd leg is the away leg for MLS teams. I predict DC United wins in Jamaica and advances, and KC loses and is knocked out.

I saw both games too. I was thinking KC was the better of the two MLS entrants, and I still think so even though they were disappointing at home. In Depor Saprissa they have a much better opponent, and they were not up to the challenge. You have to lay down the law in matches like that--score early, keep up intense pressure, and force the visitors back on their heels. None of that happened, and I doubt if a Bob Gansler team would ever pull that off. Great coach, but very conservative.

The biggest disappointment for me was the complete lack of fans in the stands. That was embarassing. KC won't be so lucky when they head down to Costa Rica next week. They're most likely toast.

DC had the easier draw, got off to the quick start with Esky's goal, and had to enjoy playing a Caribbean team on the frozen tundra of the Maryland Soccerplex. But Rimondo gave up a ridiculous goal after colliding with his defender (looked like a U7 team on that one), and that made it more interesting the rest of the way. DC got the win and were clearly the better team, but they were not sharp and gave up an away goal. They've got some work to do.

So I have to concur that it looks like DC will go through and KC will not.

I didn't see HV's goal. I agree with you, Saprissa was a much tougher team than Harbor View.

Also, you are spot-on with the fan situation. There were about 11.5 people there.

I think you are being a little generous there. I don't think you can count the stadium staff in with your numbers.
