The difference, I think, between sports that are fighting sports such as judo, boxing etc. is that the rules of the game clearly demand physical contact of that sort. In soccer there is no such expectation. If a person is killed in a boxing match it is unfortunate, but one of the risks of the game. If i go out to play soccer and someone does a judo throw on me, we aren't playing soccer anymore.

And, I presume, the governing bodies of soccer should sanction such behavior. Seems to me that he should be suspended for at least a few games after such an incident. More similar behavior gets a year ban. More similar behaviors still, and lifetime and move on. One bad player like that can end 3 or 4 careers.

Michael Brown's two footed lunge at Giggs Tis the season for horror tackles and related. Ben Thatcher, a name not known to most before this week. Roy Keane (lord of the horror tackle) in managers job. And the newest to the fray, Michael Brown. Little Brownie has been involved in a few terrible tackles, and his latest came against ManYoo... or to be more precise, Ryan Giggs' shins. Here's the tackle again, just in case you missed it.

It was against Giggs, someone should give him the Victoria Cross and make him a Knight of the Garter. Actually, wait, that was a terrible tackle and he should be banned of course. I did think it was funny how he tried to act like Giggs was just being a ***** and faking. Tapping him on the back and saying something like get up man, that was just a flesh wound.

Ben Thatcher’s Elbow has Never Met a Face it didn’t Like After watching the video of Manchester City’s Ben Thatcher introducing himself to Pedro Mendes for the 7,000th time, we decided that Mr. Thatcher might not be the nicest player on the pitch.
We aren’t too surprised to learn and to see that his elbow has been used before in a match with similar effect on an opponent’s face. Ralph Welch, a 19-year-old Rovers player, had his mug smashed in by Thatcher during a reserve game in February. Said Welch: “I have no doubt Ben Thatcher set out to hurt me. He knew exactly what he was doing. He has done it before and he will do it again. It’s almost like his trademark.” Welch is now trying to involve the authorities since he claims his pleas to England’s FA have fallen on deaf ears. Thatcher’s trademark elbow has already gotten him suspended for a couple of games and likely will land him additional punishment when the FA disciplinary committee meets to discuss things on September 12. __________________
