Missed opportunities like this happen in every single soccer game for every single soccer team. No one ever scores on 100% of their opportunities.

Elligner's tactics and/or lack of effectively communicating them to the team put RSL in a position to lose.

Yes I agree that missed opportunities happen...
I suppose my point is...
you can lead a player to the goal but Coach E can't make them score!

Good teams finish!

For me, this was a tale of 4 quarters. I give them an B+ for the first quarter, a B- for the second quarter, a C for the third quarter and a D for the last quarter. For an overall grade of C

I couldn't give them an F for the last quarter because they almost tied it up in the last minute of the game (that should have been a goal by Kreis - in fact, I bet he's still beating himself up about it and probably won't stop until after the Chivas game). I also couldn't give them lower than a C for the 3rd quarter because they were pretty successful on defense, despite the fact that the game was almost entirely played in their defensive third.

I gotta tell ya, though, nothing's more frustrating than staying up until 2:00 am to watch the tape delayed broadcast of your team losing in the last minutes of a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was literally punching the couch pillows and screaming at the TV!

I agree with Deuce here. Especially on those two or three goals that should have been. I think that the tactics were in question because we shouldn't be playing bunker ball with only a one goal lead as Deuce mentioned earlier, but the players also had some good opportunities and didn't put them away - especially that last one for Kreis. My 7 year old girl would have put that one away. That was a choke, utterly.

I think that even if Kreis makes that last shot, we'd still be criticizing Coach E's tactics though.

Ok, my turn:

Klein has a horrendous game. It seems like we are saying that more and more frequently lately. His touches are terrible.

I was pleased with the defense with the exception of the goals. The first goal was a joke. The defense absolutely fell asleep. And with the second goal, we didn't cover the Fire's counter attack.

I thought Torres, Forko, Novak and Talley all had a good game generally.

I like Ballouchy's movement off the ball. What was Ellinger thinking pulling Ballouchy?

But, other than the dummy that Klein pulled for Kreis' goal, I thought his performance was poor.

RSL sucks. I waited out the hour-long rain delay to watch RSL squander another lead? What a let-down.

Of the six matches we've led in, we've only been able to hold on to win in one of them. Just as many here believe that Ellinger deserved credit for the 4-game unbeaten streak, so the blame falls squarely on Ellinger for not being able to hold onto a lead.

I hope I don't have to watch another RSL match on Azteca again. The commentators were a joke. They didn't even know any of the players.

True and true. I was wondering why Ellinger wouldn't drop Andy Williams into Klein's spot after seeing him huffing and puffing all over the field, screwing up passes, screwing up first touches, etc. Never happened. Why the hell not? I still can't figure it out.

The Azteca guys were HORRIBLE (horrible means horrible in spanish πŸ˜‰ ) I mean, flat out disgusting in their calling of the game. It sounded like they got 2 guys at the last minute and said, "Oh hey, we're broadcasting the RSL game this evening. We couldn't find any real sportscasters that wanted to do a Wednesday MLS game. You guys want to wing it?" Terrible. (Also means terrible in spanish πŸ˜‰ )

We had the lead for the Galaxy and Chicago (home game) so we have won two where we had the lead.

During the rain delay I flipped over to the Chivas USA -- Houston game. Christian Miles kept talking about how the coaching staff had done such a great job "resurrecting this Chivas squad from where they were a year ago."

His co-commentator was none other than . . . Thomas Rongen. Needless to say, each time he said it there were about five seconds of dead air.

At least there was some entertainment last night on Direct Kick. πŸ™‚

Wasn't it in our home game against Chicago that Andy Williams helped "kill off" the game near the end? It was one of the few times when Andy's "meanderings" through the midfield were useful.

I think that Williams would have helped us retain possession, especially after the rain delay.

What's the worst that could have happened? Williams' lack of defense means that we give up 2 goals in 15 minutes?

Were they the same guys from 1600 AM?

Coach E made some dumb @$$ moves last night. If you're going to play a 4-5-1 to try and salt away the game, then why the hell do you sub in Harris? I could see the writing on the wall as soon as Harris went in. I just don't understand the thought process. If you're trying to salt away the game why the hell would you insert an offensive minded player, especially considering the fact you're playing a 4-5-1? Not to mention the biggest problem was possession in the midfield. How is pulling Medhi and inserting Atiba the answer to the midfield problems? So why Harris and not Williams? And if it had to be Harris why not pull Cunningham? I just don't get it!
