Ellinger already has experience coaching half of that team. I say we do a straight-up swap.

-DC's Peter Nowak (I am sure RSL fans fav choice)
-Revs' Steve Nicols (good friend of new USSF prez and former WC player himself)
-Portugal's Luiz Felipe Scolari (doubtful?)
All I can do is pray that the USSF will bring in a coach from a soccer superpower to take the USMNT to the next level. Enough of the recycling of the CONCACAF coaches...

Of course not. Think about it...there's already so much in common. Ellinger has had tremendous success with the youth program in the US, bringing it to world prominence, similar to what Arena has done with the USMNT.

Ellinger blames the refs for losing the matches...Arena does too.

Ellinger uses formations and tactics that really don't make a lot of sense...Arena does too.

I think it makes perfect sense. I've actually heard that the only way that Mathis will play for RSL again is if Arena comes to coach the team. I say that's reason enough for the straight-up swap.

Bruce Arena and Frank Yallop should switch jobs.

I think Yallop will stick to his new job for at least another year.

BTW Arena's tenure is up in December of this year.

Mathis for the Nats in 2010! I can see it now. Mathis tries to kick the trophy into the stands because FIFA requires him to wear matching shoes.

I would like to see either an American coach, or at least someone who has spent a great deal of time here.

Maybe give Gansler a chance to go to a WC with pros instead of college boys.

I think it would be sweet to get a coach who has won the whole enchilada before -- or at least gotten to the final; who has been there and done that.

What would it take to get Parreira or Scolari or Rudi Völler or whoever makes it to this year's final?

Seems like the Dutch do pretty well coaching--anyone available the US could poach? Ooh--hey, Bergkamp's retiring, right? You think he's got a good head for coaching?
