I hate to say this, if RSL could get a better deal than what was originally proposed (originally RSL wasn't going to keep much of the money generated there, it was no better than playing at RES) the Fairpark may be the answer.

I'll take the Fairpark over no stadium and no team at all.

Yeah, and my ward ball team is 5-0 so far this season, we give great effort, and practice hard. And, oh, we're committed to Springville. Forget the Jazz, who can't even make the playoffs in their league and seem to have all sorts of issues -- the Springville West 3rd Ward is the REAL team in this state.

I think we heard that a long, long time ago when they said it wouldn't work because many of the revenue streams, like parking, still wouldn't be under RSL's control. I don't think that this is anything new. We've always known that the Fairpark will never work. 😉

How have the Cow-lumbus Crew, the only MLS team to play in a hamlet more Hick than Salt Lake City, managed to survive at the Ohio State Fairpark?

You'd figure that Sigi's buffet bills and Frankie's hair care products would have already bankrupted them.

The Blitzz once beat A League teams in the US Open Cup. And the refs hosed us out of a victory in 2002.

Maybe some day, Real Phoenix will beat an A League team in a US Open Cup game?

Hee, hee, hee; I crack myself up.

Maybe their deal with the Fairpark is different than the deal that was offered RSL to put the stadium in the Fairpark. I don't know the details on Columbus' stadium at all. I do know that the deal that was offered RSL was ridiculous.

I know that the fairpark idea is unpopular, but what about the area north of that where the proposed soccer complex is going to be built anyway? Is there a way they can work out a deal to use the soccer complex money for a stadium, and do a PHP sort of thing with the stadium and the dozens of fields for the team to practice on and other leagues to use?

What makes you think so? From what I'm hearing the options are pretty much as follows:
1. A bond measure funded by property taxes to be on the November ballot. All indications are this would be overwhelmingly rejected by voters.
2. "Selling" the hotel tax money to Sandy City who would assume the financial and political liability. But as of this morning, the county has already earmarked that money for other projects.
3. Funding the whole thing privately. But Uncle Dave has already said he's not willing to do that.

So it sounds to me like the stadium idea is pretty much dead in Sandy. Unless some other community wants to start talking again (Murray's already said they won't), then the whole stadium idea is dead and we all know what happens then. I'd like to know why you're so optimistic about a deal being done.

I'm ever the optimist and this is how I see it as well. My favorite part is where SL County has already ear marked the funds RSL lobbied for. so awesome.

Again, a great congrats to those who didn't want the evil evil sandy (the city that shall not be named) to be the home of RSL.

the good news, I'm a fan of MLS now and I'll just cheer for another team, like San Jose....D'oh!
