I think you're right. I'm sure it's already factored in.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong - wasn't this stadium deal supposed to include a parking garage and hotels, restaurants, etc.? Salt Lake County supposedly would not get anything back from their loan for 10 years. Well, who gets all the income from the parking garage when there are events at the convention center? I doubt those would go to RSL. Wouldn't the county also generate additional revenue from the hotels and restaurants, which would be used by convention goers? The proposed developments would not only be used by and be dependent on the success of RSL.

I know, I might be misinformed or might not understand everything. Let me know if you think I'm correct on this.

I have the same reasoning. The out-of-county (RSL Games) and out-of-state (International games such as WC and WCQ's) money that the county will receive over the life of the team in Salt Lake will pay off any interest only payments, etc. Of course, this is based on the assumption that MLS and RSL are long term viable investments. That's where the lack of vision comes in to play. A bunch of accountants balked at the numbers and the "leaders" of the county said "No". It's a good thing we didn't involve accountants during our Revolutionary period. We'd still be part of Great Britain!

Leaders without vision will likely base all of their decisions on the "worst case scenarios" that accountants dream up, while those with vision will listen to accountants and then take calculated risks, and will become either heroes or villians because of their vision.

A good summary of the recent situation by an observer.

Excellent piece. Of course I'd say that since I agree with everything he wrote.

And Soccer Silicon Valley types know all about this kind of bumbling. It's why their team is now in Houston.

That is a great piece...
My favorite part!

As for Councilman Joe Hatch, who refers to "the poo-bahs at RSL" as "chowderheads," we have one question: How unprofessional can you possibly be? The mind boggles. We can only guess that your constituents are profoundly embarrassed at your performance.

This part is what I am talking about!

It's clear that if this situation is to be righted, the Salt Lake soccer community is going to have to do their part to make their voices heard.

Check out the "Time to change our tactics thread" and get involved....

More on plans will be out soon.. but in the mean time make your suggestions and post your ideas....

Here is a blog entry I found that has a very interesting view of the Utah Taxpayer's Association.

I posted this a while ago but I have noticed that the Utah Taxpayer association is again gaining support... And people are starting to quote these morons as if they are legit!

PS Nessie are you still be harassed by that guy at the Utah Taxpayer's association?
Is he still signing you up for mailing lists and stuff?

Not anymore!

He probably found out I was a grad student and decided I was a Blood-Sucking Drain On the Taxpayers' Wallets or something.
