No mention of Jamie Watson as an option up top?

I'd be on board with this one. Ellingers tactics (if he even has any) suck! Plain and Simple

Not true. Ellinger's style of play is being used successfully around the world. In MLS, New England runs the exact same offense. If you want to see quick strike offense, I would suggest watching indoor or any team with Ronaldinho on it.

I'm not saying Ellinger is a good coach. I have my concerns, but they're not related to tactics. A slam on RSL's style of play is a slam on almost every good team in the world.

I'm interested in learning more about how you characterize El's tactics/offense... Quick strike offense? Whatever that is, how does it differ from other MLS teams or other offenses in general?

Possession offense is characterized with a slow buildup in play. The team tends to stay vertically compact and move the ball forward as a group. The safe pass is usually the right pass. The idea is to make the opponent play defense for a long time until eventually they make a mistake. The Revs are the best example in MLS (in my opinion - style is pretty subjective in soccer and many hybrids exist) - their biggest difference is they cross more because of their personnel in the middle.

Quick strike offense (maybe it has a real name but I don't know it) is what you see in youth leagues and adult rec leagues. It's characterized by a very forward-pressing, shove it down their throats mentality. The team tends to get quite stretched vertically. The passes tend to be long, high risk/high reward. Teams with great attackers (guys with speed and skills) can use this offense to score quickly and often - teams like Man U in their heyday and Brazil. Rec and youth teams do it because they're lazy and impatient, but they don't have the personnel to do it effectively.

I'm not saying one offense is better than the other, and it's not as cut and dried as I'm making it sound. My point is, criticizing Ellinger for his offense is like criticizing a football coach for running the ball.

Watson should be there in Dallas with the team.
The circumstances of his disappearance are odd to say the least.

Ok, I understand where you're coming from. And even though I would agree with your characterization of ManU (and all of the Premier League for that matter) I wouldn't characterize Brazil as Quick Strike. On the contrary, the whole idea of "Jogo bonito" is the pleasure of the beautiful game: fun passes, triangle play, zig-zagging progress down the field, etc.

On a similar note, Italian Calcio generally is characterized in this manner: slow, methodical, etc. The Primera Liga as well. The Premier League fits the description you've given for Quick Strike to a tee.

On another note, why would you characterize El's offense as slow, build-up, etc.?

Maybe he was hiding out with Dick Cheney.
