I think the national games are the only thing that counts as "tourist". But even those are not great tourist projects. About 37% of the spectators at last years W.C.Q. at Rice Eccles were from out of state. So I guess we can figure we'll get that many at future events. (but fewer in number because of smaller stadium) But that's also one time number. There won't be enough visitors year round to really generate a lot of growth in the area beyond what the locals can do. Without a steady stream, it won't be a very nice place to visit from out of state.

They don't need to build parking facilities downtown. There is plenty of parking. Downtown has spent years accomodating crowds for everything fromt the All Star Game to Festival of Trees.

I'm also glad the Hotel Tax issue fell by the wayside, because that appears to be a non-issue. The hotels will pass on the tax to their customers, and the only fear they need to have is that it may force potential customers away to competition. Because all of SLCounty will have the extra tax, that's not going to occur locally, and I doubt that they'll lose customers to Colorado, Idaho or Nevada due to the tax just because instead of having to shell out $200 for their stay originally, they are now having to shell out an extra $3!

But that's not how parking downtown works. That's how it works in the suburbs, but parking downtown depends on staggered events and private parking lots. It always has. So my short answer is there is no need for another parking structure to accomodate a small stadium. Quote:
Surely you jest. This is in every story about the stadium. SLCo is constantly complaining about the pressure they're getting from the Legislature while the legislature insists it's the county's money to do with as they please. They're not both right. Mayor Corroon's re- election is far from certain and the legislature is holding this over his head.

Apparently, the people in charge disagree with you because a parking structure of some sort was part of the initial plan downtown. I have a hard time imagining them even considering such an expensive proposition if it were not needed. Quote:
And that doesn't even begin to address the numerous other points I made that you are still ignoring. Just some food for thought, here is an example of extra costs not taken into account with the original $20 million to buy the block: And Anderson, who was out of town Tuesday, recently said that block is still the "best" option downtown, though the city is looking at other sites.Any downtown site would have had extra expenses like this. It wouldn't have been cheap to move a car dealership someplace else. It would end up costing the county a lot more than $20 million to put a stadium downtown and they wouldn't be getting anywhere near the value for their money that they would be getting out of Sandy. Again, I ask, don't you believe that Uncle Dave would build downtown in a heartbeat if it was even slightly viable? He wanted it downtown as much or more than anyone. __________________
