The whole "there are hotels outside SLC" just doesn't make an impact with me.

Come on. That $45 million is coming out of the pockets of downtown businesses almost exclusively. The idea that the motels strung across the freeway offramps will contribute much to the project is a joke when you consider the thousands of high- priced hotel rooms downtown that fill for business conventions and skiers.

How much do you think inflation is? We don't live in Russia.

"Soccer City" is enormous. You can't compare Delta Center to "Soccer City". Delta Center is one arena. It's not even that big.

$145 million.

I'm not surprised. It probably goes right there with the whole inflation thing as far as you are concerned.

There is one way to make this project work again.

Scale the project back to stadium only, take $20 million from hotels, SLC will buy land with RDA money and let the stadium complement the businesses that will be putting up money for it.

There are two things wrong with your inflation argument.

One: We don't live in Russia
Two: The Delta Center wasn't built in 1940

OK I am comparing the amount of money that Larry recieved to the amount of money RSL has asked for. It really is that simple...
I am not trying to cloud the issue with "soccer City" and talk of "Russian inflation"

The "FACT" is that in comparison to the money at the time... Larry recieved more money for the Delta Center "LAND" then RSL is likely to recieve for the RSL Stadium "LAND"... Is that clearly stated enough for you or should we argue for six more months about it!

I am sure that if you want to ignore the facts that you can stay pissed about it for a long, long time. But just because you ignore the facts so you can continue to argue, does not make the FACTS any less ... factual!
The end result is the same...

Look, there's an easy way to prove to me you're right. Show us some numbers.

You can go to http://minneapolisfed.org/Research/data/us/calc/index.cfm to find out for yourself. If I remember correctly, Larry got $28 million for the DC. If you put in the year 1989 when funding was given to Larry and 2006 as the final year, you get $45.73 million dollars. That's more than the $41 million RSL is asking for.

You're right, the DC isn't that big. So, not only are they spending less money when you compare inflated values, but they are getting more in return. They didn't get hardly anything besides the DC in the original deal, but the county is getting hotels, a shopping district, parking structures, and a bunch of soccer fields to be used. Sounds like they got ripped off when they gave Larry his money. "Soccer City" is a bargain.

There's two things wrong with your argument. Neither of those things were part of my argument.

I can accept that.
