Am i allowed to factor in inflation and actual cost of living adjustments or will you only accept a dollar for dollar comparison?

Why do we keep throwing around $145 million when the public financing of land purchases and infrastructure improvements is only in the $41 - $45 million range?
I'm sure Checketts would have loved for the city to step up and take care of the stadium only deal in downtown, but they didn't/couldn't. Just accept that Soccer City is going to happen Skiers don't just stay at downtown hotels. The hotels in Midvale and Sandy are often full of skiers during the ski season. I have had to compete with them to get a room from time to time. Also during major conventions, all of the valley's hotels and motels are booked for those. It is true that SLC has more rooms and higher rates, but hotels are not a monopoly of SLC. We should get a cut from the hotels at the resorts themselves as well. __________________

But those are small potatoes. No one is saying there are no hotels outside of SLC, The bulk of the $45 million will come from SLC.

The county gets way more of the deal if they use that money in Sandy than they would if they were to use it downtown. A block of land just doesn't even begin to compare to what they get in Sandy. They would be irresponsible with the money if they chose to build it downtown. The county can spend the money however they see fit inside the county. It doesn't have to always be used exclusively in SLC. There isn't anything wrong at all with the money being spent in some other part of the county. If SLC wants its own $45 million to be spent exclusively on SLC, they can implement their own 1% hotel tax. __________________ An empty stomach is not a good political advisor. If it were going to SLC, it wouldn't be $45 million, it would be $20 million, and that seems much more fair. There would be opportunities to boost tourism in other parts of the county. That is not possible under the current plan because the $45 million puts the County's bond rating in jeopardy, which Mayor Corroon has already said will force the County to seriously tighten the belt on tourism, etc. Translation: Sandy gets $45 million, no one else gets anything at all.

While the amount may be more in Sandy, you also get much needed improvements to that area along with soccer fields, parking (which benefits more than just the stadium down there), a new business district, a hotel, and a stadium. Even if they don't put the stadium there, they are going to have to eventually spend money improving the area. This way they get a lot more value out of their money. In fact, I believe that Corroon said it wouldn't get done without the soccer fields for youth soccer. Where are you going to put those downtown? Quote:

But it's not really the county's money. The legislature made it very clear to the County leaders that there would be dire political consequences if they tried to use that money for something other than the Stadium. The County is extremely nervous about the project because it threatens their bond rating, it sinks their tourism money into a non- tourist project and they are basically being blackmailed.
