Realize this though....
McAllen has all sorts of smaller cities within Herriman driving distance....

I would drive from La Joya, TX to see a match in McAllen.

It’s really a delta.

No mountains in Texas? There are some, although not the Rocky Mountain size.

We also have a few big holes.

Since there is an 80-92% Hispanic population in the “valley”(and who knows how many illegals), I think another Chivas team would be more appropriate.

Can't argue that, but they just won't call it what it is.

Actually, it's MSA is over 600,000 and still growing very fast.

Minnesota Public Radio has an interview with the main contact at the biz journal about this one. It focuses on the Minnesota aspect of it but it does help to explain what they were looking at with this study

For example, they don't factor in the cost of a stadium. They do look at the overall markets ability to support a team in a league. IIRC, they said an NHL team needs $36b in local economic activity to support a team.

They're just looking at income for the most part, right? They're not factoring in for the region's sports appetites, or collegiate teams or things like that, right? Just looking at the spreadsheet seems to suggest that the US is ripe for soccer mania, but I doubt that is the case. It did give some qualifiers for its top ten most capable and most overextended markets. Philly and Rochester were both recommended to MLS. Denver and KC were both listed among the overextended markets. Interesting.

Oh, and looking at the spreadsheet, SLC seems to be stretched thin.

I disagree. According to the numbers, it looks like SLC can handle the Jazz, RSL, and the Blaze just fine. Add anything else that's major to the mix, and we may have trouble.

There is something a little goofy about how they calculate "metro area" in that study. in a number of cases it seems entirely too small, in others it seems to be much too large.
