Very miffed rant on fans that ... throw things at players or refs. I can't believe that people can call them selves fans of the team or the game when they throw drinks and bottles at the officials and opposing players.
Look, I know it's frustrating when the officials suck, and tonight no question they sucked but to be fair they sucked for both sides, maybe worse for RSL but still they made bad calls on both sides; I don't think anyone who listens to me on the radio would ever say I like refs, I'm the first to call them what they are, generally useless in this league. However throwing things at them is unacceptable and immature, not to mention dangerous to officials and to the team. FIFA has a habit of making teams play behind closed doors without fabs for a while if they get enough negative reports from teams or officials, then see how fast Dave can build a stadium with a lack of revenue from gate receipts. I just don't get it, I mean I get mad and there are times I want to slap the ref in to sense but you just can't do it. Like at the end of the game the Rapids players bring the cup over to do a lap of honour and some stupid fans (most of the fans were clapping them) started lobbing stuff at them including a Vodka bottle, so they left with an omage of RSL fans that was not accurate. This isn't the first time it's a regular thing here at RSL, it has to stop. If you know who did it, report them the next time you see it, they give us a bad reputation when really we have a great reputation around the nation. I would like RSL fans to be known as loud, engaged, knowledgable, intimidating with song and chants and noise. I want us to be known as fans who follow, loyal fans through thick and thin. I want us to be known as the best fans in the country. I don't want to be known as sore losers, dangerous fans, I don't want to be compared to Kansas City fans, they have that reputation, they can keep it. We lost the cup and the game fair and square, they scored and we didn't, bottom line. We didn't finish our chances they finished their chance. We'll get better, Coach will come back from England with players you'll love, other players will come from around the league, some players will stay and improve as they play longer and with better players. Being a good sport in a loss is every bit as important as being a good sport when you win. Either way acting with class is important and always available as an option. Just my rant, sorry to bother you with it but sitting up there on the 6th floor I was getting more and more angry with the stupid few. By the way .. the streamers at the end of the game looked so cool. nice job.

We were pissed as well. I have never understood that.

Agreed.
Both the Loyalists and the RCB started chanting "Don't throw crap on the field!" after those two items came flying out after the bad call. I'm surprised though that security didn't seem to come down and start looking around to see who did it. (Boy, light a smoke bomb and they are all over you in about two seconds.) The items always seem to come from the southern end of section E33, away from the RCB and the Loyalists. I was on the field when the Rocky Mountain Cup was presented and saw the several cups that came flying down when Cannon ran over there with the trophy. When he came back he seemed to be laughing more than anything. I think he got a kick out of it. He said he ran over there because he wanted to get the fans involved more. Certainly though, this all has to stop before a ref or player gets hit in the head and injured. Last edited by the cup : 10-13-2005 at 12:57 AM.

I would be all for a policy in the two groups of turning in anyone who throws crap at officials or players.
It is abslutely unacceptable to throw stuff at people... __________________

I can't believe we're still having to deal with this. The comments on this thread are right on the mark but it's ridiculous that any of it has to be said.
Part of supporting your team is defending its reputation, and we cannot tolerate the type of behavior described here. Within our ability as supporters groups we have to take a zero tolerance approach, and it sounds as if we're already doing that. Point the idiots out and get them chucked from the stadium. Zero tolerance. Zero. __________________

My first thought last night when I heard fans were pitching stuff onto the field was, OMG the Loyalists must be totally embarrassed and pi$$ed at these people. Unfortunately folks who haven't read how supportive you all are of the team are going to lump you all into this group of idiots. I, for one, am not going to be one of those.

My thought is the next time we see a moron throw something (other than streamers or confetti) onto the pitch, let's just throw them onto the pitch.
The overwhelming majority of RSL fans are knowledgable, loud, and supportive of the team (despite the struggles the team has had producing results). We can't afford to let a small group of immature undisciplined idiots damage our reputation.

Scholesy, you're right on the money with this.
For those that weren't there, let it be known that not a single object or streamer was thrown from the Loyalists or RCB sections (until the final whistle at least). The cup full of ice & the vodka bottle came from somewhere around section 34, about 7 rows up. I actually chased down a 10 year old kid who was chucking streamers from section 30 and lectured him about throwing stuff during the game. He laughed it off and I managed not to slug him. But he was wearing a comp team sweater and I told him if I saw him do it again I would call his coach. That humbled him up.

I got a different perspective on this last night when we were getting the trophy out of its case and getting the ribbons tied on. Suddenly I felt something hit me in the side of the head, then something else a couple seconds later. Then suddenly an entire bag of confetti knocked somebody else clean off his feet. I looked up to see all of the Loyalists and RCB laughing their heads off. The guy who was hit laughed it off and didn't care, but I personally didn't like having stuff chucked at me. And I did not appreciate people completely ruining the appearance of the trophy right before taking it onto the field. Before the game, C10 spent a considerable amount of time getting that thing polished to perfection for the fans. And then in a few seconds of spite, the fans dumped an entire bag of confetti on it so the whole thing was just dusty and dim.
Okay, now my rant is over. 🙂 Nothing personal and certainly no grudges to be held about it.

i agree throwings = bad.
BUT, i would like to know how the oldman linesman on the east side of the field can see and dodge a cup being thrown at him, but cannot see a crapids player 10 feet offsides. makes yo uwonder if their eyes are only in the back of their head 😉
