Serenity now! [R] I've talked to more than one Firefly fan on these forums. Just a reminder that Serenity opens this weekend in the U.S.

I know. I can't wait. Although I probably won't be able to see it until next week because I'll be in Colorado this weekend.

I loved the show and I was so sad to see it go. I hope the movie is as good as it looks.

Is it a sequel to the Firefly show or a retelling ala X-Files?

It's a sequel set 6 months after the final episode of the show (That aired for the first time in the U.S. on SciFi Tuesday night).
Quick timeline (real world): FOX aired 11 episodes out of order, and ordered 3 more that were never shown DVD's come out with all 14 episodes to huge sales Universal buys movie rights and makes Serenity Dark Horse Comics makes a 3 issue series of Serenity detailing the 6 months between show and movie SciFi broadcasts Firefly every Friday night leading up to the movie opening ('Verse) Srgt. Malcolm Reynolds fights in the civil war on the side of the Browncoats, part of the loss at the battle of Serenity Valley 5(?) years later buys Firefly-class transport vessel, names her Serenity Hires crew (former solider-in-arms Zoe, mercenary Jayne Cobb, pilot, and now Zoe's husband, Hoban "Wash" Washburn, mechanic Kaylee Frye) Rents 1 of 2 shuttles out to Official Registered Companion Inara Serra Picks up passengers on Beaumont (a Dobson, a Simon Tam + cargo, and a Shepard Book) Dobson turns out to be an Alliance agent tracking Dr. Simon Tam, who's cargo turns out to be a cryo chamber holding his sister, River Tam, who's been experimented on by the Alliance. After dealing with Dobson Mal takes the Tam's on and part of his crew, as he needs a medic. Many adventures pursue, with the crew of Serenity usually on the wrong side of the Alliance. Inara and Book both choose to leave the ship for different reasons ***SERIES ENDS**** ***COMIC STARTS*** Details what steps the Alliance is taking to track down Serenity, and how and why Inara and Book leave ***COMIC ENDS*** And this is where the movie comes in. Having seen it already, I can tell you that you don't really ned to have seen the series to enjoy the movie, but you'll get mroe out of it if you do. You certainly don't need to have read the comics, as they weren't even out yet when I saw it. Last edited by JasonMa : 09-29-2005 at 11:08 AM.

Thanks Jason.
I feel far more informed. Are all the same actors/actresses from the tv show in the movie?

Absolutely, every one of the 9 cast members is back, along with Joss Whedon doing the writing and directing for the movie. Obviously in a 2 hour movie you can't give all 9 cast members the time they had in 15 hours of TV, so some of the characters (most notably Book) have small parts, but they're all there.
