RSL vs. Harbour View FC: 8/24/05 [R] We got a good game on our hands.
I personally can't wait to see Scarlett take on his past club. Go RSL!!

Why can't we score?!!
We outshot them 19-4, by pure luck at least 3 or 4 of those should have gone in. And I don't even know where to start on what happened with their goal against us. __________________

D.J. was way out of place on that one. I'm not sure why he came so far off his line. Once it was past him that was it. This was a great game, what a great team Harbour View is. I really have to hand it to them, they were a classy team.

The question for me is more ... if DJ has to run out 20 yards or so to challenge someone why was there no defence in between him and the attacker? Was he too far out? Yeah, I think he would have been better waiting a little and giving a little less room, but who was really missing from the picture?

Yeah, the defense certainly got caught napping which is inexcusable. They did seem to be closing and putting pressure on the player though. Everyone just seemed surprised to see DJ out so far though. I am pretty sure he was outside the 18 yard box. It was a very ugly play all around. Train wreck is a phrase that comes to mind.

Thanks to Dadof8, I heard that it was a draw at 1-1. Akwari scored a header for RSL off a corner from Williams.
Wish I could have been there. Sounded like a good game.

This was one of the funnest games I've been to in a while. Smaller crowd (6,000?) makes for a more laid-back atmosphere. Also, since it wasn't a league game, there was no pressure to win so we could just sit back and enjoy.
Lots of great new chants from the Supporters Corner. We had a blast doing some of them. In the first half, we chanted "Try Bobsledding!" and I looked over at the HV bench and several of the players were staring at us, listening. We also got into the goalkeeper's head and got him to wave to us. (Sucker) I thought these two teams seemed pretty evenly matched, although RSL seemed to dominate the possession through much of the game. Maybe it's in my mind, but there seemed to be fewer wild balls being shot off into nowhere ("Time to panic, San Jose's gonna win..."), several good chances at scoring that just couldn't get finished, and how about that ref? He seemed to be keeping a very tight rein on the game, including a yellow that escalated to a red within about two seconds. What was the story on that? Several yellows going out to our team as well. Williams and Scarlett were brilliant in my opinion. I love seeing their runs coming up the side. Jay Nolly had a couple great saves in the first half. When I saw DJ way out there one-on-one right before the HV goal, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Afterward I sceamed, "There! He's freakin' off his line! Is that good enough for all of you??" Is it in my mind or did the midfield really do there job more than usual this game? Usually it seems like we're playing defensively during most of the game and if the ball enters the midfield, it just bounces back to our defense over and over and over, with few good chances going toward the forwards. (Maybe there have only been a few games like that.) Anyway, tonight the team seemed to be attacking a lot more and the number of shots from each team reflects pretty well how the ball was played. Just my uneducated two cents. 🙂

DJ came out way to early if you remember that play Akwari was coming back on the forward and might have been able to caught him off if Countess would have stayed on his line a little longer, plus he let him beat him with a nut meg. Anyway, Mathis played pretty good for his first game back, i thought Cabrera played a great game, Scarlett and Williams both played great games and Watson was unlucky and atleast should have had 2-goals, Jay Nolly played a good game, he had a great save in the first half when there was rocket to the goald and he layed all the way out and made the save and Akwari had a good goal.

The red came out so quickly b/c it was the fellow's second yellow card. He was the same guy that had the altercation with DJ when he was on the ground so he was carrying a yellow already. Quote:
Well, it wasn't good enough for me. DJ was WAY out there. I am pretty sure he was outside of the 18 yard box. For me it was standard DJ. When he decides to come off his line he is very unsure of himself and looks very uncomfortable. It seemed to me that he got out there and everyone on RSL (well, at least all of the defenders who got caught napping and were currently in pursuit) including DJ looked a bit shocked and lost as to how to play the situation. That said...it looked to me like Nolly nearly got beat near post again last night. He seemed lucky to make the save and didn't actually catch it, but punched it over the endline. I don't know which keeper should be starting. I will leave that up to the coaching staff, but it seems that they both could use a bit of polish.
