Seen any good flicks lately?

I love movies (I even studied film for a year and a half!) and since there isn't much RSL news right now, how about some movie talk?

I saw I [heart] Huckabees, and thought it was hilarious. Jason Schwartzman does a good job (not as good as Rushmore but good) but Mark Wahlberg steals the show. He acted it perfectly and his character is very likable. Anyone else seen it? What else have you seen?

I haven't see I [heart] huckabees yet although it comes highly recommended from those who have so I'll more than likely catch it within the week.

I went to "What The Bleep Do We Know" last night at the Broadway Theatre. It's a really good movie as far as I'm concerned. It's very philosophical and takes on a documentary style while also having a fictional story full of visual effects and animations that keep you entertained. It's a hard film to put into words but it deals with quantum physics and the effects of emotion on our bodies and minds. If you like a movie that makes you think, this is a good one.

The only other movie I've seen recently is "Shark Tale" which was excellent as well, just in a completely different way. I'm a fan of animated movies but I haven't had a chance to get to "The Incredibles" yet.

I'm going to try to get to "The Motorcycle Diaries" as well, because I hear good things there, but the balance between time and entertainment is an interesting one.

I'm excited about the movie National Treasure. The little Indiana Jones rip-off looks fun and entertaining. We saw Day After Tomorrow last week, I thought it was pretty good, although based on some pretty far out ideas. Sci-fi movie for sure.

Yeah National Treasure looks like it could be a lot of fun. Probably not so much on the profound/life-changing side, but a lot of fun. I don't know why there have been so few Indiana Jones style rip-offs, it's the type of thing we all love: treasure hunting, traps, etc...

I'm looking forward to "National Treasure" too. I miss Indiana jones so even a rip-off will do, if it doesn't star Angelina Jolie.

As far as Day After Tomorrow, it was entertaining but not as good as I had hoped it would be. The theory of the formation of an Ice Age due to the oceanic currents stopping is real, and would in fact do the trick. It's a big argument on global warming, not that we'll all fry, but that the polar ice caps will melt, the oceans will rise, the water will become too heavy for the currents to move, no warm water moves north and south from the equator, and BAM!...Ice Age. A good book on the subject, at all of 104 pgs is "Ice Age" by John and Mary Gribbin. If you're a quick reader you might just be able to read it in the store. 🙂

Saw The Incredibles this afternoon...a well done piece of animation. It's pretty long for an animated film (just over 2 hours, I think), but you don't feel it while watching. Very entertaining and funny!

My fav idea about Day After Tomorrow is what would the Americans do after the movie? Move back to frozen US? Squeeze into Texas and Florida? Fly to Hawaii? Merge with Mexico? Invade Belize? Made me think a lot about that.

BTW I saw Walking Tall last night (before the KC/LA match) My wife and I both thought it was good, just ended too soon. Man, the Rock rocks. He is so cool.

They would just walk around and run a lighter over the snow, it'll subside. :p

I concur, Walking Tall is a good movie.

I saw Sahara and I thought it was pretty good. Steve Zahn (of That Thing You Do, You've Got Mail, Saving Silverman, etc. fame) made the movie. I don't think the chemistry between the two leads was that great but that really wasn't the point of the movie. I also thought the other sidekick guy, the one that went all the way back to the boat in the sheep truck was entertaining as well.

Anyhow, a great comparison was National Treasure. Not as funny but the adventure/action was tied together a little better. I still like Sahara better though.

Your thoughts?
