Jamie's red card... |

My original point was not that he should start. My point was to lighten up on the rook. To start bashing him on one red card and say nothing about all the veterans that have gotten them this year, is utterly ridiculous.
Enough said. Oh and thanks for the neg rep taytay, whatever that was for. Last edited by ReAl : 08-14-2005 at 04:50 PM.

I don't see why you're so defensive. I'm only saying that it was a dumb foul, and that he needs to temper his emotions a little better. Just because he's a rookie doesn't change that fact, or give him some sort of free pass. As far as "no mention" of the other red cards, you must have missed the multitude of threads on this and other boards about Mathis' red. If that's "bashing", then consider me a basher.

You know, some of us really were un-sure if he deserved it or not. That was the piont of this thread, not to bash on him for getting it. And if you'd look around, we've bashed on other players that got cards on stuff they shouldn't have done. We are not bashing him, we're bashing his choices. Those are two TOTALLY different things, I love Jamie as a person and as a player, I just don't exactly trust his judgement. And it was for trying to start a fight that does not need to be fought, and shouldn't have been brought up in the first place. Cool it, ok? None of us are Jamie-haters.

We 😍 Jamie!
If you think loving somebody is based on them being perfect, you're in for a shock. We can love him and know he has faults, too. But when you love somebody, you don't always want to point out those faults. So good job everyone. Nice discussion. Back to real life now. 🕺

Direct from the Real Salt Lake website ... U.S. UNDER-17: The team's offensive supersub…Has tallied more goals (14) than starts (13) at the Under-17 level…Made his way into the starting forward spot alongside Freddy Adu for the World Championship…Scored 14 goals in 39 appearances in 2003 with the U-17s, including four goals in 17 international appearances…Scored a goal and an assist during the 2004 FIFA U-17 World Championship…Joined the program in September, 2002, but missed several matches shortly thereafter through injury…Went on a scoring streak and netted in five straight matches he played in across November and December. I had a conversation with John E. who told me that his favourite thing to do with Jamie was to use his energy often in a substitute position. I didn't say he never started a game, I never said he didn't start in the WC, you made that up on your own mate, you apparently didn't read my email fully and interpreted things however it would help your arguement. In case you can't read ... it says that he made his way into the starting spot because he was a 'super sub'. Therefore he was not the pre-eminent starter until he proved himself after a time as a successful sub. I am not sure why you have to argue about everything, I like Jamie very much both personally and professionally. I admire his play and passion, and I'm not sure he warrants any grief from 'fans' like you who would rather fight about their team than support it.

The point in my comment had nothing to do with the red card. It happened in the blind spot.
I tried to say that I think that Jamie gripes too much to the officials. Watson v. Thomas at the corner flag isn't a fair fight. Asking the linesman's opinion was pointless. And you can't provide evidence if you don't get your day in court. I just imagine defenders around the league now saying: Watson's fast. Just hold him then. What if he complains? Good, see if the refs listen to him. I understand that we can't select parameters for our players. Refs have ignored legitimate pk calls on him already this year. No reason to think that they'll provide any makeup calls. Play hard, like always.

The straight red for the hockey style bodycheck was a no brainer. Luckily we had just the man for the job carrying the whistle on Saturday 🙂
Also the 3rd RSL goal probably was good, but in most cases even a good ref would have disallowed it. __________________

This comment intrigues me. Why would most refs disallow the goal? I am interested in hearing a bit of explanation on this. Even after playing for a number of years and watching European soccer on TV for the last couple of years I am still perplexed at some common refereeing decisions. Would you mind helping me out here? What exactly was the foul Jason committed and why would this typically be whistled as a foul?

I just read this whole thread and it's the babiest thread ever. It reminds me of children bickering, boasting that their dad can beat up your dad. Next.

Would it make a difference if the "super-sub" came in at 60 minutes instead of 85? How about at the half? To be honest, it's the FIRST half that we usually need some motivation, but when Jamie has started for us he hasn't had the same energy and flair as when he comes in late in the game, or maybe his energy gets drowned out by our general lack of energy at the start of the game (except, of course, against FCDallas!).
I hope Jamie sticks around with us for a while (I also hope he gets a raise soon-- he's already earned it). He's also great out in the community. When he came to my kids' summer soccer camp he was the clear favorite of everyone, and he related well with the kids and made the drills fun for them. In pointing out that Jamie's foul was stupid, I don't mean to take anything away from the great things he brings to the team. I think it's one of those things that you recognize for what it is, learn from it and move on.
