The problem was the referee had ZERO control of that game. Not two minutes prior to that, Jason Kreis was elbowed in the face inside the box and was on the ground in the fetal position while the trainers ran onto the field. The referee felt the injury was serious enough because he even waved for the trainers to come out. Yet it wasn't serious enough to warrant a penalty? Hmmm. Then on the following goal kick, Watson has clocked in the back of the head as well with no call. And this is all following the atrocious disallowance of RSL's third goal.

The bottom line is this: Jamie Watson's hit was unacceptable. But the referee should never have allowed the play to escalate to that level. He lost control of that game early on. It was a horribly officiated game, for both teams. I don't know what MLS has to do, but their level of officiating MUST improve. I can't count the number of handballs the ref missed tonight, on both teams. And the whistle seemed to be completely arbitrary as to when it blew for a foul. There was no rhyme or reason sometimes. Just my $0.02.
good post. I concur with it all.

Dadof8-- I heard the same exchange-- are you in Section 36?

The ref missed some really important calls-- handball by KC defender in the box (intentionally played the ball with his arm) followed by incidental handball against Broome or someone on a decent breakaway that he did call. . . Taking away our third goal, then not giving Jason a PK for his concussion-header-collision in the box-- that would have made it 4-4 and given JK a hat trick.

Jamie is great, but what a stupid foul-- 4th minute of stoppage time, game lost, and now we have two players out on cards next game when we're trying to make a run for the playoffs. I think he gets a red card for being dumb. There is some strategy involved in controlling your temper so your team doesn't suffer-- hopefully Clint is figuring that one out as he writes that $5,000 check and cools his heels for yet another game.

Please let Eddie be OK!

Jason's goal was great, so was Cila's-- two of the better goals of the season not off set pieces.

[/QUOTE]HOnestly, I doubt it. $5000 isn't all that much for Clint and a temper is a life long problem. You don't just get rid of it or learn to control it that quickly. Plus, it's in sports and he's a guy...

I wonder how many additional games Watson will get for that foul.

Inexperience… let’s remember Jamie’s still a rookie

I know-- and he's a great guy. I just hated to see him blow it for nothing. And we need him around for some juice at the end-- he made a great steal and pressured nicely in both directions. He had a pretty solid game except for the last 5 seconds!

First off, as usual, when Jamie came in the game picked up again. He did have a good solid game. Now, did any of you talk with Jamie after the game regarding the "checking in the boards"..probably not...it was not a get even play. He was running full force after the ball and not the player..hitting the boards sounded worse than what it really was. The refs had no control of that game from the beginning. Jamie feels bad about not being able to play next week and yes there will be a fine. Both will hurt him since he's not one of the "big buck" players and loves to play. He feels bad about the whole incident.

I don't know about that. I had a pretty good angle on the play and he was definitely going for the body. He threw his entire frame in the KC player. Regardless, it was a stupid play and such tactics are not acceptable.
