and a odd comment:
Amidst the fireworks of the Independence Day celebration the Red-and-Black dominated the home side for the majority of the match. Their efforts paid off in the waining moments of the first half.
Did the Mutts dominate?

Exactly what game did the writer watch?

The writer would be McKid BTW.
Maybe the MetroStars were paying him to write that, not MLS.
😕

To be fair, I thought dominance/momentum was kind of patchy. They'd put together a good 5-10 minutes, then we'd do the same, and it kind of went back and forth.

I thought the only time that the Metros actually controlled the match was from about the 46th minute to the 65th. I thought that RSL were the dominant team otherwise, if anyone.

The Metros were dominating the scoreboard, but I thought we were the better team throghout the match.

Man, I thought we whine a lot about the refs.

Yeah, I saw a different team dominate. Our guys hustled like nobody's business the second half, it looked like we were winning all the 50/50 balls and were connecting on a lot of passes. Even the first half looked to be in our favor. It was one of those games where the scoreboard was not indicative of the play - at least in my opinion.

The refereeing was pretty bad last night. I think both teams had cause for complaint.

I will say that the penalty wasn't exactly what you would call "clear-cut". But to say that the tie was undeserved because of officiating??? Let's review:

Linesman with 2 TERRIBLE off-sides calls against Jamie Watson in the first half. In fact, I think the officials got together before the match and decided to single out Jamie as the guy to pick on. Jamie DOES tend to exaggerate fouls a bit, but he was getting hammered all night long and got nothing.

Red card call on Dunseth. I didn't see the play very well, as I was sitting on the west side, and (major gripe) there was never any replay shown on the scoreboard (we need more replays -- and less scoreboard lighting during fireworks 🙂), but I hear it may have been a bit harsh of a call. Certainly a game changer.

Also in the first half, Mathis and Watson each had passes "caught" by defenders, which I think is illegal in most leagues. I guess not in MLS. Cause the official was standing not 5 yards away staring right at the play.

Jamie's shot on goal deflected out of bounds by a Metro player -- no corner.

That official deserved to be booed off the field at the half. Atrocious.
