My students typically only address me as Mr. when they want something. šŸ™‚

The reason that Brazilians use one name or a nick name is because you'd end up having either a really long name like Edson Jose Maria da Soccorro da Conceicao, or you'd end up with half the team having the same last name such as Da Silva, Da Souza, or Ferreira. To give you an idea, my Brazilian companions' names were Marivaldo Felix da Cruz (Elder Felix), Ozani Barbosa Farias (Elder Farias), Crispiniano Oliveira (Elder Oliveira), and Jose Da Silva (Elder Da Silva). There were 5 missionaries in my mission with the last name Da Silva so usually the first one there would get to use their last name, then the next one would use their first name or middle name.

I noticed that some of the players are using their state as part of their name like Ronaldinho Gaucho and Juninho Pernambucano. People from Rio Grande Do Sul (which borders Argentina and Uruguay) are called Gauchos (pronounced: Gow-oo-show, not gow-tchoe). People from the state of Pernambuco (where Recife is) are called Pernambucanos.

Okay, I'm called Dad of 8 because I have 7 kids and my wife was (and still is) pregnant with our 8th when I signed up for the forum. I didn't want to call myself Dad of 7 because I knew I would be a Dad of 8 in July.

That is excellent foresight.

mine is just too easy...

when I was growing up I was almost as big a KISS fan as i am a soccer fan. I know... hard to believe but true nonetheless.

Their signature song is Deuce. deuce means 2, I am a gemini which means two.
So as you can see it just fits...
Besides all my other KISS fan friends used to call me that and it was first ever official personal email address. It evolved to Deuce UK when I was over there.

now mostly RSL Deuce.

Silly really but the combinations are endless and it always seems to fit...

Too much info?
probably but thats OK I don't mind.... if you don't

imne came from when i playes a First Person Shooter video game called WWII Online. Its an awesome game, a 1/2 scale map of europe! gigantic! with ground troops, naval troops, and even an air force! its really cool to hop on a whole column of tanks and ride into a town held by your enemy, then call in your squads air force to bomb the crap oputta it before your tanks make it in.

anyway, back on subject.... I got the name hiddenfox because i was a great sniper and no one could ever find where i was killin em from, hence the name hidden. and Fox is my last name. it had to be shortened because your name in game can only be 8 letters long. so its Hiddnfox. name stuck. I use it for all my internet needs

Should I be worried that most of these user names make sense to me?

I've moved an average of every two years since I was born--around the US, and overseas as well.

Rover seemed to be appropriate.

Military family, or merely wanderlust?

My original name (on the other board) was Czar Pazzo, because when I was in Italy they called me "Gatto Pazzo" which means "Crazy Cat." They all thought I looked like a cat, and they all knew I was crazy. I just liked the word "Czar" because it has a C followed by a Z. Isn't that great?

...anyHOO, when I signed up for this board, I decided to throw in my normal name because this one was more local, or something.

To sum up, I'm not really sure why I use my usernames.

When we got married, it was just tooo cute to change from "hackenj" to "montgj" but my husband was already "montgj" so I became "montgjules" (didn't want to use the full first name because that would be too much typing and as you can see I obviuosly don't want to type too much, that would be a pain and I couldn't stand that....) so my nickname of the past ("Jude") faded out and I became Jules. The only problem is people thinking it's "Jules" like "Jules Verne"... ie a man. Oh well. Blah blah blah blah blah, back to my "taking a break" from the forum.
I always wondered where this came from. It's not the easiest nick to pronounce. Now I know! "And knowing is half the battle!"

As for why I use the username I do, my real name is "Eric", and back in the early days of the Internet (or what I consider the early days) back in 1994 or so, I started needing to use some sort of unique name, and "Eric" was already taken - can you believe that?!?! So I decided to make it unique by attaching an "A" to the beginning and a "K" to the end. The "AE" is common in nordic words, from what I understand, and having a "K" on the end is also used in some instances of the spelling of my name. Unfortunately, others have caught on to this type of spelling, and it's no longer used only by me throughout the Internet. šŸ™
