World's greatest rivalries...

...by country. Those of you who are familiar with other countries, what are the greatest rivalries?

In Uruguay there are two major teams - Penarol and Nacional. You are either for one or the other. Penarol is a team of the people, while Nacional is a little more elitist. The've both been around for over 100 years, and it's a great rivalry.

The only reason I bring it up is because there was a match played over the weekend between the two and they tied 2-2.

Anyone else know of any great rivalries?

Yeah, I guess I was going for soccer, but I didn't note it in the post, so anything goes.

In Egypt it's Ahly vs. Zamalek. I've met several Egyptians online whose first question to me is, "Are you Ahaly or Zamaleky?" I say Ahly and they immediately warm up to me: "Ahh me too." My sister said this is a very big deal in Egypt (she's lived there twice.)

If you root for the same team, you might as well be considered family. You may notice my Ahly jersey at the games worn by me, my husband or somebody with me. It looks like a ManU jersey w/ the Vodafone on front but has arabic writing on back. :D

In Brazil everyone either hates or loves Palmeiras. They're kind of like the Dallas Cowboys of Brazilian Futbol. There is a big rivalry between Sao Paulo City and Rio De Janeiro City too, so if any team from Sao Paulo is playing any team from Rio it's war. On the world scene, Brazil and Argentina are big rivals. Brazilians hate Argentina when it comes to futbol. (pronounced: foo-tchee-bowl)

Argentina sure spanked Brasil last week. I've never seen Brasil play so poorly. Rhonaldino (sp?) had a terrible first half. They both hate Uruguay, if I'm not mistaken.
