Personally, I just get tired of having to have to "educate" people about non-Mormons existing in Utah constantly. Just as I would assume LDS people get tired of having to explain that they're not polygamists with 17 wives.

My opinion is that sports teams in Utah really don't need to do anything to propagate any of the stereotypes about the area, but whatever...
I agree it is not about Mormon v. Non-Mormon, it is about a beautiful sport!

I don't care one way or the other what people do on Sunday as long as you are in the stands on Saturday!

Go Real Salt Lake...

In a more on topic post, I would venture that its hard to have any bearing or idea on what the SSS corporate sponsor will be. For example, here in Orlando, our sports arena, for the NBA Magic is called the TD Waterhouse Center. Do you think Waterhouse has a big presence or even has a corporate building here? No, they have nothing, yet they pay millions to get their name on the building. So who really knows what RSL's SSS will be called.
Peace my Loyalist brothers and sisters.

The state is something like 55% LDS, which means 45% of people won't care much for "This is The Place" comments about their soccer stadium. When I saw some of the names people wanted for the team like, Utah pioneers, Utah Saints, Utah Gulls, it annoyed the crap out of me. Not trying to bash your comment, just try to remain neutral.

I actually think this was posted by Niel, but I wouldn't mind having my name also attached to it.

BTW I am a LDS convert too Neil, so I see where your coming from, but we can't disregard the fact that the majority of Utahns are Mormon, they settled the place and most outsiders look at the state as the Nation of Mormons.

Just because people beleive something, doesn't make it true. I just want the soccer community to be for everyone, not just LDS people, regardless of what the rest of the country thinks. LDS references while dealing with Real will make non-LDS people feel uncomfortable, maybe even unwelcome, and that would be bad for our sport, and our team. Utah has a lot of stereotypes, we just shouldn't perpetuate them, that's all I'm trying to say.

I always thought that Pioneers and Seagulls and "This is The Place" was about a shared Utah history, not about which religion had reference to it. I don't get offended by references to other people's religious histories. It's not like I get offended by talking about the Pilgrims, even though they came to America because of religious differences.... I guess it's just been blown out of proportion for too long by too many people so now it's a bit of a hot button for people. I hope that doesn't offend anyone.

I think Neil was reading my mind!

The more generic(religion, ethnic, race etc... etc) we make our club and Real Salt Lake the more enjoyment everyone will have!

I think diverse is the word I am looking for here! More so than generic!

This is just good common sense...

Regardless of the diversity of the club now or in the future, the thread is about names... :D

I still think The Courthouse, The Green Mile or Parliament would be cool nicks for the new stadium... they will actually fit regardless of Downtown or Murray siting!

😉

I like "The Courthouse" if it's over on Main and 4th. But Parliament is kool as well.
