It can be daunting to try and come up with a flag design. I actually have changed my mind since I came out and said I was going to do my "dragon" flag. That may have to wait a few games until I get more skilled with the silk.

Instead I'm going to start more basic. I'm either going red and yellow stripes like the Catalan flag.

Or yellow and blue stripes like Parma AC.

And I think I'm going to just go out and buy a bed sheet and paint the stripes on. It shouldn't be too tough to paint straight lines.

I want to go big though, like a full size sheet or queen size.

Cup that will look awesome either way. Big is good! Keep us posted on how it goes.

Remember everyone the season starts very soon! Let's get these flags ready!

Okay, let's say I get my flag all done, what is the best thing to use for a pole? And what length should it be?

Good question Aero. I think I'm going to get a piece of pvc pipe for mine, maybe 5-6 feet long? Depends how big the flag is, I guess.

Anyone have a better idea?

PVC was what I was thinking of, but wasn't sure if there might not be something better. I guess a wood pole is another obvious idea.

I'm going to use PVC pipe. I think its best because it will bend alittle bit where wood could break and splinter if it whacked up against another pole.

If you go to a fabric store, you will probably find that you can get a large amount of fabric for cheaper than you would find a queen or king size sheet. Then again, if you have no sowing capabilities you would not be able to hem the ends and they would probably shred to pieces after a while.

I would offer my wife's sowing skills to people, but I think I would have to charge a decent amount to make her willing to spend the time involved. I guess I could ask her if she's willing though, and see what happens.

usually you can get sowing done real cheap and spray

for the logos just use duct tape to mask it all out and spray paint away!

Also, regarding the giant banner to be pulled over supporters heads when a goal is scored, I heard back again from that Casbah guy about their flag. He says they raised the funds to buy it through dues and auctions and whatnot, but this year they have a new flag that they acquired through money from the Quakes themselves. The only drawback was that they weren't allowed any say in the design. Personally, any big flag is better than no big flag, unless I guess if it has a very large sponsor logo or something else instead of a cool Real design, but I don't think the front office would do something like that to us. Loyal1 is there a chance you could bring up the subject of the front office buying us a giant flag? It really makes the rest of the stadium and the TV crowd notice us, and perhaps will cause them to migrate over to our section. It did that for me in San Jose when I was a newbie.

When it comes to huge flags that the Loyalists can throw up when RSL scores, I wonder if RSL would donate this:

(aka giant RSL jersey from the unveiling)

Just a thought.
