Thanks for posting all of the articles A2. It's the first thing I look for in the morning.

So the official formation is a 4:5:1. But from the way the wingers moved up, especially Tiger, it looked like they were playing more of a 4:3:3. The Blitzz played a very offensive 5:3:2 formation on occasion, busting the theory such fullback loaded formation is only for bunker defense. The secret is quick player movement (wingers mostly) in syncrony with rapid forward ball movement and it helps if you are altitude adjusted and your opponent isn't.

I'm a big fan of 4-5-1 over 4-4-2 for this team. I think it affords RSL more flexibility. I noticed that it allowed any number of players to make runs at any given time, and allows the wingers to get a little more open. And while winning headers in our offensive box hasn't been our strong point, it sure is nice to have BOTH Mathis and Williams available just outside the box to recoup any defensive header clearances. Most of all, I like Mathis much better when he isn't up front with another forward. This position is perfect for him, and this lineup allows both he and Williams to play more of a creative role.

Should be interesting to see how the 4-5-1 works against the cheetos 3-5-2. They used it against NE and lost, but only 0-1. New England missed many chances they should have made, but they're also much better offensively than RSL to date.

I admit I'm concerned about how our midfield holds the ball on Saturday. Cheetos aren't very good, especially on defense and up front, but their midfield isn't horrible and they work very hard on ball control and working the wide HDC field. They may be winless, but the cheetos will be a good test for how well our midfield is coming together, especially with the Galaxy next up.

I thought making runs was one thing we did very poorly last week. There were numerous times where I thought Akwari could have made a nice run past Tiger and gotten the ball deep and very rarely seemed to make that run. I hope this week the long run is more effective.

Same. We were severely lacking in width at times.

Maintaining width and crashing forward quickly is crucial if you're going to play a 4-5-1 with Jason Kreis up front. He got battered around all game long because people were hoofing long balls up front.

If the 4-5-1 is going to be effective, we've got to put the ball on the ground and get forward quickly. Otherwise, Jason will be a giant blueberry by the end of the season from all the bruises he'll be getting.
