I detect on the forum a certain amount of angst about the performance of the team. Understandable--it's been a rollercoaster so far. Guess what? It's always a rollercoaster for a soccer fan.

Case(s) in point: What MLS team hasn't had ups and owns so far? LA? Remember that 0-3 drubbing by the Crew in Week One? And looks what's happened to the Crew since then. And look what's happened to LA since then.

Kansas City was a solid pick to win it all this year, and they just lost 0-2 to . . . Colorado? Metro and cheetos still haven't won a game. FCD looked great against us, but struggled with Chicago and laid a 0-0 egg against . . . Colorado? Chicago has looked OK, but can generously be considered lucky to win the last two.

San Jose finally won a game last weekend, but still have major problems with defense. And the defending champs? Three straight losses (counting the drubbing in Ciudad de Mexico) and folks around RFK are wondering if they can get Nellie back on loan from Blackburn.

New England fans are resting easiest, but their turn on the downslope is coming.

The point? The rollercoaster is a way of life in MLS, and all your fellow fans around the league are experiencing it. Sure, FCD fans are riding high but we'll see how they feel after this weekend.

Sure we have problems all over the field. Sure we need to find net to get this thing on the right track. Sure we have off the field issues--we need to draw well and 0-3 losses and two goals in four games don't help the effort.

But hang in there. It's a marathon, not a sprint. We will turn the corner. We'll have ups and downs, but the best is yet to come.

Sorry Bordy. I did a search for Rover's post and then punched, "quote" without reading the subsequent posts.

That's ok, I figured as much 😉

Good article, though. We are only 1/8th the way through the season, and we're not doing too badly. As Rusty said on an interview on 1280, if we win this weekend, we're essentially .500, which just about any expansion team would take. And if our offense ever gets clicking...well...good things could happen.

I just have to disagree with people saying Clint is lazy.
I am no manager, but from what I've seen, if you didn't know any better you could say that pope is lazy. He doesn't play with a flare, neccessarily, but he does everything in his own calm way, and it works out (obviously). i think cleatus was doing what he could.

The Fire started slowly in their first season but look how that worked out.

It seems to me that the two players that I've consistently seen working hard to make plays are Clint Mathis and Jason Kreis. They are always up to something; always going somewhere; working with the ball, or without the ball. They work hard, but the ball isn't getting to them enough. Also, when they do shoot, they seem to be missing a lot.

I don't that that means a lot, because if they were getting the number of shots that they should be getting (if the ball actually got to them more often), it would be going into the goal. In any soccer game you have many more shots on goal than goals. Some are saved by the goalie, some just miss. So I don't think the problem is with the shooting, per se, it is the fact that the forwards and the midfield are not clicking, yet. I believe they will get there and when they do, watch out.

I also saw Brian Ching working really hard. It was impressive, even though he scored a goal that put them ahead
