Donovan to MLS....again? Not sure exactly what the source is that started all of this (Kicker magazine?), but some credible rumors are flying around that Landon might be on his way back from Germany before the end of the month. What do you all think?
If it's true, then part of me is really disappointed that he didn't "make it big" in Germany. But the other part is thinking "sweet! Landon is coming to SLC 3 times this year instead of 1!"

Is this assuming that, assuming the rumors were credible, he would go back to San Jose?

I'm not sure what all the specifics are on such a situation, but I'm pretty sure that SJ has already been "paid" for Landon's departure w/ allocations that they have already used up. I imagine the process going something like this: *ring, ring* "Hello, this is Landon..." "Hey, Garber here. Hear you're coming back. Where do you want to go?" "San Jose."

Careful, there, fellow soccer fan. Danger close for this Marine. As for Donovan, this is not bad news (if it's true--not sure about that yet). His return to Germany was not just about whether he could make it there. It was also about whether or not he wanted to. It's entirely possible that you can take the boy out of California but you can't take the California out of the boy. It would be great to have him back. Leaving the City of Leverkusen is not a difficult thing to do--it's not a great place. Leaving an opportunity to make it big in Europe is not so easy, but maybe he now sees that it's not necessary for his development as a player. And his girlfriend is in San Jose. Nuff said.

[Soap-Box]Not just a fellow soccer fan but a Navy Veteran as well... I nearly said "Marine Corps Intelligence" but I figured that might be a bit much... especially since I knew there was at least one Marine on the board... but in the current political environment even the Navy/Marine Corps Rivalry is not strong enuff to justify even that!
I am a proud veteran and I support the work you guys are doing... but even you know it is like an un-spoken duty of all military folk (past and present) to knock the establishment! It was all in good fun... [/Soap-Box] As for Donovan... let us hope he does not go to Seedy Cheetos! PS. Loved the Fire-Support Reference... 😎 Quote:

Donovan speaks Spanish, his family is from the 909 and the Goats are going to need a "You Suck" allocation............

Oh I know it's all for fun--but it's more funny if it's a fellow vet who's saying it. Who hasn't wondered if the head shed had their map upside down? And good to see someone out there knows what danger close means . . . JLL is right--Donovan is a SoCal boy who speaks decent Spanish and would have no problem with the seedy cheetos style of play. Then again, can all those El Tri fans forgive him for destroying them with that tremendous goal in Jeonju (17 June 2002--memories!)? No, I think he'll go back to San Jose. But, wherever he goes, it will have to be in California.

San Jose used the Allocation they got in exchange for Donovan, and they did get a transfer fee, so San Jose does not get dibs on him.
Is that not correct? Also Galaxy want him and they have an allocation. Do we not have an allocation left... and if so could we not get him? This all is on the proviso that the rumors are true! Of course!
