He probably thought the police would laugh at him for thinking sidewalk chalk was 'threatening', FFS.

It was probably the Deacons in his Ward playing a joke on him.

Either that or he did it himself looking for attention.

❗

This is getting ridiculous. The guy's home is vandalized, albeit in a relatively inoccuous fashion, and now you are all trying to blame HIM! He is a legislator and he passed legislation that we don't like or agree with. That doesn't make him the devil and it doesn't even make him wrong!

He didn't report it to the police, because it was relatively harmless and he didn't want to get someone arrested over it. At the same time, he doesn't want a repetition, or an escalation (and if it went without comment, I would bet on escalation). So he takes it to the news, so the respectable people will know what is happening and put it down. Whoever did this, was thinking it was cool and expecting praise, at least from other fans. If he doesn't get it, he won't repeat it.

I expect that, whoever did it, didn't think about the consequences to the team or the fans. It didn't occur to him that worldwide, soccer fans have a somewhat unsavory reputation. It didn't occur to him that in Utah, that kind of reputation would probably mean the end of the team and the fans. It didn't occur to him that we have been very careful even from the Blitzz days to maintain a family atmosphere and a friendly reputation. It didn't occur to him that just a couple of incidents of this nature could undo that work for years to come. Good reputations are hard to come by, and take years to nurture. Bad reputations can be picked up almost immediately, ruining all the effort to gain the good reputation.

Your attempt to make Mr. Bramble the villain in the piece is likely to be perceived as at least indirect support of the perpetrator. It is an encouragement.

Disagree with Mr. Bramble all you want. Tell the world how misguided he is. But don't villify him and don't leave any doubt about the wickedness of vandalism, even on a small scale. The vandal must KNOW that his actions are not supported by any of us. If it escalates, it could be the ruin of us all, as far as RSL and MLS in Utah are concerned.

Personally Jim, I think we can have any opinion of him that we want. Also the facts are that he claims this was a terrible incident but has nothing, including pictures or police report to show for it.

When someone tried to break into my car (the doors were unlocked) and tried to steal my CD player (but didn't get a chance) I still reported it to the police, my insurance agent and took pictures. This senator has is house "vandalized" and does nothing?
Maybe in Utah this is common but everywhere else I have lived in you report this stuff.

Sorry, but my opinion is that the above statement is BS.

If it were me, and I had felt threatened, I would have called the police. If I hadn't felt threatened, I would have laughed it off. Period.

Maybe that's just Crazy Detective Bordy7 talking, and you can somehow read that as "indirect support" of hooliganism (just because I'm not kissing the guy's butt doesn't translate into me supporting burning his house down), but that's just how I see the situation. Over-reaction.

Is there anyway that we can call him on his story?

It does us no good to play in the mud with a politician, even if we believed that the vandalism was fabricated, as I'm reading between the lines in this thread (if that's what "fishy" means). We should take the high road, issue our release, and stay out of it. If the story is legit, we did the right thing. If it turns out to be bogus, we still did the right thing and Bramble looks like an idiot. And if it was bogus and no one proves it, we still did the right thing.

Take the HIGH ROAD. That's what RSL is doing, and that's what we should do.

I have no problem taking the high road publically and agree that is exactly what we should do. I don't think that means that we can't question the guy here though.

I still find it awfully strange that the only proof he has is his word. It's also weird that if he was as scared as he makes himself and his family out to be that he didn't contact the police, but the local newspaper. If I felt that my family was threatened, I wouldn't be calling a press conference.

My comment about "calling him on it" was mostly tongue-in-cheek. I should have probably included a smiley to make that more clear.
